After making the drive over to Proctor to see the game, I wound up visiting the New London Hospital after my daughter was forced to leave the game early in the first period. Good aggressive play by the Proctor player as my daughter was stepping into her shot. Referees got the penalty but my daughter was seeing spots out of her right eye. Precautionary visit on the advice of the trainer as she is OK and will play against Tabor on Friday. Proctor played hard and they are going to be a very good team down the road. Brewster's present lineup was just a step quicker and probably had a little more experience as I think Proctor had a lot of frosh and sophomores. Good luck the rest of the season.

Black Bear,
Sorry to hear about your daughter and glad it is nothing serious! I talk with my daughter(#15) and she was a bit upset that the team, as a whole, did not play a better quality game and kept it more respectable. Good luck also to your daughter and her team for the rest of the season!

Caught the Pomfret vs Taft game last night. Pretty even match although Long was not on the bench. Pomfret 2-1 although they were really lucky in this one. Taft took the play most of the game with only the few odd shots from Pomfret. IMO if Pomfret continues to play this way it will not be long until they fall from the unbeaten. Overall I was more impressed with Taft than Pomfret.

True Coolsport, I believe Pomfret will eventually loose somewhere along the way, it will be difficult to keep undeated status with the parity in the league this year. A word of caution though! I have seen Taft play, they are a young team with a very bright future, but I wouldn't judge Taft's play against Pomfret without the benefit of Mic/eala Long's 2, 3 pts per game ... where would a very talented Patriots team be without Tom Brady. and by the way where's Long?

Agreed! Long open's up the ice for the other players and this is where IMO her strength lies. I also agree with you on Taft. Although they didn't seem to show that last night. They do however need to get the ability to finish. They seem to lack that go to person on their top line.
Regarding the league, I have seen a couple of games this year and there does appear to be parity. I will make for an interesting and exciting finish.

A defining weekend in D1 hockey for many elite teams ... Nobles vs. Berkshires, , Lawrance vs. Pomfret, Choate vs. Taft, Loomis vs. Hotchkiss.

Bold, yet you must really have seen alot of the taft tournament and their finishes to claim that. Good thing it's a team sport then huh coolsports?

IMO most top teams have a person that comes up big. Players such as Long, Knight, Holmes to name a few. While I have not seen a lot of games of Taft IMO they seem to get mostly gritty goals. Yes, one player can not make a poor team good but a good team can get much better with a go-to player.
IMO Taft is a good team that should really get better as the season continues. With parity in the league they should be in the hunt. However, I would not underestimate how much a true "star" would have on their fortunes

You could say that about at least 5 other teams in Prep school hockey. If the queen had...,she would be the king.

Happened tonight. Lawrence Academy defeated Pomfret at Pomfret, 3-1.
Long was out there, all night.

Not surprised. This is a really tight year for the preps. I have not seen anyone who can not be beaten on any given day. Next to fall Berkshire?

Go figure. Both Pomfret and Chote lose. It is turning into quite a season.
Does anyone think the talent if off this year?

I'm surprised to hear the question Coolsport. Truly the talent level has improved this year. You may see a few programs dipping a bit, but overall the league has more talent this year than last. I believe this is true from incoming freshman to those players in thier senoir year. I would suggest the goalie situation has been strengthen, the premier players are more versatile, and the overall talent level on each team (D1 & D2) has balance between the lines. Coaching is the hot commodity.

The talent level is certainly on the up-swing. But, spread around a little more. Plus, many teams now have depth - with quality players.
But, filling the spots of this years graduating class will not be as easy as years past. Again, due to the volume of commited programs.
I believe this is the most balanced year I've seen in Prep School hockey over the last 5 years. Berkshire looks to be the frontrunner right now but after that it gets crazy. I believe Long for Pomfret missed a game or two. Is she still out and for how long? Is Stearns back for Nobles? Any other teams have any significant injuries? The next month should have some very interesting games.

I believe Long only missed one game.
Agree on the balance. IMO there really are no locks this season. Yes, Berkshire is undefeated but in the couple of games I have seen they look like they could be in for a loss. Big surprise for me has been Loomis. Lot's of talent but I guess youth is not serving them well.

Is there a website devoted to girls prep hockey that shows stats, rankings etc?

I may be in the minority, however I feel the talent is not as strong as last year in Prep School hockey. I look at the loss of players Berkshire has taken as one example. I think looking around at Division 1 and Division 3 you can see that last years senior class which is this years freshman class is very good. I look at all the first year Division 1 teams and see they are doing well with almost all freshman as well as freshman making big contributions all around.
