Skip the parts about the UW football fans acting terribly and you'll see that Hagemo may be wavering on his commitment.

Disappointing that Eaves gave the kid a commitment when the Gophers wouldn't and now that they're showing interest, he's wavering.

If this would happen along with if Suter would decide to leave the Defense would be in some real immediate need of help on the blueline.

There was an article in the Pioneer press today that stated that Lucia would not comment on the recruiting class until the end of the early signing period next week because "one or two more" LOI may arrive before than.
Can Lucia send a LOI to Nate? Isn't it a "gentlemens agreement" not to recruit if a player has verbally commited or can he if Nate called Lucia?

Shouldn't Gopher Basketball fans know all about recruiting Committed players :) :)
Robbie Earl jumped over to Wisconsin from Michigan, although that was mostly to follow his former coach.

I don't know if Eaves is just saying what he's supposed to say about this, but he still does think that he's going to get LOIs from all 4 of the recruits. I'm not a big fan of the early commitments myself. Usually it works out. The hoops team here had early commits from 2/3 of their class for next year, the pigskinners have some early ones. However, as was the case with Earl last year, a few pigskinners last year, and perhaps now Hagemo it is clear that sometimes early commits aren't any good. I tend to be the type of person who will stick to a commitment I've made. If the kids aren't 100% sure they want to go to the school they've committed to then they shouldn't make a verbal commitment. Recruiting is a strange thing to me...but such is the way of intercollegiate athletics.

...as the future looks pretty bright in Madison when you look at the underclassmen already here, and the 3 recruits signed. Hopefully Nate can look down the road and see that things in Madison are turning pretty quickly. If not, best of luck.

The Hagemo rumors have been going around all week. I've heard it from a few different people before this article so there must be something to it.
IF he doesn't end up at Wisconsin, he'll definitely go to Minnesota. That is the only other option he's looking at. I guess he and MN's staff have kept in touch. From what I heard, it sounded like he was looking to set up a visit..not necessarily commit to the Gophers at this point.
An optimist pointed out the Andrew Joudrey situation of a year ago to me. Joudrey committed to the UW on his first and only unofficial visit. When the coaching change was made, he took the time to make sure the UW was where he wanted to go and decided to take a few visits elsewhere. Hagemo did the same thing and committed w/o going anywhere else.
I like the fact that Eaves is confident that 4 LOI's will come back signed but that could be meaningless, too. Hopefully they make an announcement of signees soon. It always takes forever in hockey, I assume because the kids are often hundreds of miles away from home playing junior hockey and the LOI's have to be signed by both the player and the parents.
Hopefully Hagemo remembers that John Hynes is on his way to be his coach for the rest of the year. He could make his life miserable the rest of the way!:-))
Keep your fingers crossed but don't be shocked if he's in a Gopher uniform next season!
Wisconsin Hockey: Kids, kids, kids!
Any more news on who Eaves may be interested in with that last 1/2 scholarship money he has left? Hopefully it doesn't become 1.5 scholarships if Hagemo backs out. We still could use another scorer at C/F.

When would we know on Hagemo either signing or remaining undecided and reopening his recruitment until the Spring??

Nothing new on Hagemo yet!
Of the USHL players remaining, Evan Rankin and Paul Stastny are two quality forwards and Motherwell and Kuk could probably help some teams out on d. There's always that country above us, too, that always seems to turn out some decent players!:-))
Mark-
I believe the early signing period is a full week..so next Wednesday would be the final day if I'm not mistaken.

any chance we could be playing for hagemo this weekend?

I dont know if we are specifically playing for him this weekend. I think that chances are he will forgo the early signing period and wait till later. However, I think our next few weekends we will be playing for Hagemo. If we can fare well in this 8 game stretch, and Minnesota continues to stink up the ice, I think that we can clinch his signing. Winning tonight would help a lot though.

Jo Pa netted 2 goals for Waterloo. Madison's Dan Sturges picked up an assist on the first one. Would Sturges be a posibility for the half scholarship left (assuming it is not 1 and a half)? Jo Pa is at 6 goals 8 assists and a +5 through 12 games. How about Kyle Kuk with the half scholie?

Sturges is not a candidate for UW scholarship money at this time. He will need at least another full year of juniors to even be considered for a half. Kuk is an interesting name, but he is young and may rather play another year of juniors and see how many/ what teams offer him a full. I would think we will want to add Kessell and Lawrence at F in the next class, so maybe we bank it. Keep in mind Ross Carlson will be back next year and he is a guy that can more than fill a role.

Davis Drewiske, a rookie defenseman for Des Moines, is a guy we may target. He is Des Moines' leading scoring defenseman and is leading the team in plus minus also. Drewiske is a native of Hudson, Wisconsin and was last year's Mr. Hockey for the state of Wisconsin.

Kuk is still the highest scoring '86 dman in the USHL and is 3rd in the entire league in +/-. I'm not sure if he'd be ready for '04 or not but someone posted a link a while ago from his coach in which he stated that Kyle should be making his college choice sometime soon.
I agree on Sturges. He's got a long ways to go to be Badger material. I believe even Eric Lampe took an unofficial visit here last summer in which he was basically told there was no room but they would look at him as potential walk-on material. I think Lampe is quite a bit ahead of Sturges.
Sags-speaking of local kids, what do you think of Joel Sauer from Madison Memorial? He had a good year last year as a frosh and was the only sophomore on TW from what I understand.
Ross Carlson is still on track to be on the team THIS year, actually. He should join the team at the X-mas break. Hopefully he can come in and contribute because there are still 2-3 forward spots up for grabs.
Let's at least announce the kids that have signed..it's almost Monday!!!!
Wisconsin Hockey: Somethin's Kukin'

Kuk's numbers look the part of a guy that is ready. I also would put Lampe ahead of Sturges, provided he now plays both ways. Sauer is going to be an excellent player but is still at least a year away from being able to play juniors. It is baby steps but he is obviously progressing at a good rate and doing the right things. Travis Davenport is actually the top player in the Big Eight for this year imho. Again, Drewiske seems to be doing really well at Des Moines and he has that Wisconsin connection. I would bet he becomes a badger, if not next year than the year after.

...picking up another goal and assist to put him at 7G & 9A in 13 games w/ a +5. Kyle Klubertanz picked up an assist Friday night. Lets hope Hagemo sticks with his commit to Bucky as it will mark at least the second time Lucia comes sniffing around a little to late. It seems like Eaves and co. are identifying the guys they want a little earlier. The goofer came in late on Pavelski as well.
