Hunwick did NOT play stride for stride with Suter at the WJC. In fact, Hunwick got very LITTLE ice time in that tourney. In fact (I don't want to let facts cloud your analysis here), Jeff Likens saw more ice time in one period than did Hunwick for the entire tournament.
I know a 15 year old who is 170 pounds. Now, he's a better than me because he's (a) 16 years younger than I am; and (b) he's 8 pounds heavier than I am. This is the basis of your comparison. Nothing to do with talent, just age and size. Simply stupid.
Hunwick is a very nice player. He might be as productive statistically as Suter in the college game. However, if you are seriously suggesting there's no difference in inherent talent between the #7 pick and a 7th round pick, you've only confirmed your stupidity.
I didn't say a thing about the WJC. I said that Hunwick matched Suter's performance with the U18 and in the NCAA this past season. I didn't see enough of the U.S. team at the WJC to comment on that. As for "inherent talent', i made no mention of that, either. It is quite probable that Suter is much more "inherently talented" than Hunwick, but what counts is how it transfers to performance on the ice. I just don't see much difference between the two in that regard over the past couple of years. Nor do I see any real reason why that should change in the upcoming years.

....Anyway, enough of this talk about Suter and Hunwick, Michigan has Jack Johnson coming in to make us forget about all the other defencemen.
Along with his buddy Phil Kessel, to make us forget about all of the other forwards. :D :D

Central ends the Select 17s with a 2-2 tie with Minnesota. Drewiske and Kessel with the Central goals.
Central ends up 2-2-3 for the festival. Kessel finishes second in the tournament in scoring.

Here are a couple of questions: Shouldn't Ryan Suter worry about dominating college hockey before worrying about the NHL and his contract?
and who is going to score for the Badgers?
FYI Gary suter dominated college hockey and was a huge star in the World Championships prior to signing with calgary, Ryan has work to do and should stay in school

Add me to that list too.
I might not be as harsh on Ryan, but I was in Madison when Gary played and I would rate his freshman year equivalent to Ryan's, and he stayed 2 years. I think he could use more seasoning myself. But then I'll never be mistaken for an NHL GM.
Gary's freshman year:
35 games, 4 goals, 18 assists, 32 pim
Gary's sophomore year:
39 games, 12 goals, 39 assists, 110 pim
Ryan's freshman year:
39 games, 3 goals, 16 assists, 93 pim
Similar years except for penalties.
If he stays and increases his output as his uncle did, this team could be a force.

I think truelegend makes some sense. Suter is a great talent but he needs some more work and could really benefit from another year in college, both on and off the ice!!!

According to USHR, Phil Kessel's top five choices include (in no particular order):
Wisconsin
Boston University
Minnesota
Boston College
Michigan
He will accelerate to attend college in '05. With the early signing period coming up, I'm wondering when he'll make his choice.
There's only one real choice, Phil. Cardinal and White makes Right.
Wisconsin Hockey: Catchy Slogans.

Great news Joey. I had heard he would go major juniors for sure next year had he not been able to accelerate to '05. Now, somebody will get a goal scoring machine for at least one year, maybe more because of his size. Eaves is at an advantage in that he already has a good start to his '05 class and doesn't have much scholarship money to use for that class. One would think he can focus on Kessel quite a bit.

I think this topic has already been beaten to death, but if Bucky can gereate a little more offense and up tempo with less reliance on the trap, we could be in good shape with Kessel. I expect that is exactly what will happen as we add another layer of Eaves recruits to the strong class freshman and good class of sophs. Eaves has always been more open at his previous stops and with the junior team and as the talent level improves at UW that is likely the style he wants to play.

Post #999 right here. One more to go java man.
Regarding Kessel,
I like UW's chances at this point. Certainly, our chances are at least on par with those of Michigan or Minnesota.
