Random stuff:
Not a surprise at all to see Engel commit early. It makes the most sense since they were going to bring him in with the '05 class anyway. Better to take a kid a year early than "waste" scholarship money on a filler.
The one thing I've heard mentioned quite a bit about Engel is that he's a very good skater for his size. He had nearly 100 fewer SOG than Kluby had last season, though, so I wouldn't expect too much offense. Only had 42 PIMs, so hopefully he's a faster, less penalty prone version of Woz.
Is Mark Osiecki still eligible to coach the Central team at the Select 17's this coming weekend now that he's at Wisconsin? That team's one-stop shopping for a college recruiter...Kessel, Skille, Zach Jones, Andy Bohmbach, Jeremy Dehner, Davis Drewiske's little brother, etc.

Someone mentioned Zach Jones earlier. Isn't he the younger brother of Matt Jones (North Dakota defenseman)? Everyone thought Matt Jones was a lock to commit to Wisconsin (including Sauer) before he decided to go to UND.
Look at all you grown men and women begging young Phil Kessel to come to your school. You should be ashamed of yourselves....

Hybs,
Engel would be probably your #8 D behind Suter, Gilbert, Likens, Olinger, Klubertanz, Drewiske, and Piskula. It will certainly add some depth and give the kid a chance to adjust to Eaves and the D system.
Lots of great talent on that Central squad. However, I thought that Bohmbach was in Select 16s. Silly Wabbit. Maybe Kessel and Skille can play on the same line and visualize scoring some goals in front of a rabid UW crowd agaist Minnesota! :D
Matt Jones was the signalling of problems in the Sauer era. He was a kid that indicated from a very early time that he wanted to play at Wisconsin, and I think the staff didn't get the job done closing the deal. Zach Jones is the younger brother, and he's a fine player in his own right.
Imagine having Morin and Jones for next season. That would be a great start to replacing Suter who I cannot imagine will be around for another season following this one (;)).
Nevertheless, I think UW's set for the upcoming season as I cannot see anymore holes to fill at this point in time. Do we start the daily countdown?

That was a rough year for Sauer. In the mix and good connections for Matt Jones and Thomas Vanek. Not only did he lose them both, but they went to our two biggest rivals....OUCH!

We can't have very much left to offer for scholarships for 2005 can we? Obviously a Goalie is the biggest need for that class yet. Kessel I assume would be the only Forward still on the target list, at least for a full scholarship guy. Is Brent Gibson still on the team? Getting his scholarship would certainly help as I got to imagine last year was a waste hockey wise for him.

It aint braggin' if it's true!:-)) I'm still not sure Kessel would be good enough to crack our top 4 lines in '05, though!

If none of the forwards leave early, I believe Kessel would be the 19 th forward for '05. Brandt, Burish, Carlson, Degs, Dowell, Earl, Funk, Gibson, Heatley, Joudrey, Licari, Mac, Rowe, Ford, Pavelski, Auffrey, Skille, Gorowsky...Kessel. That's some funny math!!!

I kinda miss playing with the little spud. I wonder where he ran off to. Rehab can't take that long...can it?

It would be great if UW landed Morin and Jones. Didn't Morin just finish the selects with less points than a goalie? Isn't he supposed to be considered an offensive d? I am confident Eaves is looking elsewhere. Jones, probably safe d, nothing more. Could be a good fit with Badgers. Hopefully Kessel wears Cardinal and white!!!

He plays smart. He's rarely out of position and makes the forwards commit before he reacts. He needs to be more aggressive with his size. Rarely gets penalties.
IMO he plays better than Woz - is much quicker than Woz and isn't out of position nearly as much. As noted, he gets few penalties.
In GB, he wasn't called upon to shoot much, but can put something on the puck when he does. He could shoot more, but is more of a stay-at-home defenseman than an offensive one.

In an interview last year Matt Jones said that his brother would like to play for the Sioux. Now that doesn't mean that he will, but hopefully UND has a pretty good shot at him.
Jones-Lee-Chorney would be one of the best freshman D units in the nation.

He's BobbyBrady now, and he's apparently taken heavy doses of Ritalin. Every now and then the vestiges of the old persona sneak out.

LS,
Fascinating. They still cannot control the multiple personality disorder, can they? ;)
You have to admit BobbyBrady/oldsalty/CHRIS!!!!!/newton1/eaglebunny was entertaining at the very least. Maybe he's tucking tail and running after stupid comments about Pineault. Who knows?

Thanks for the info. Hopefully he's NOT the next Joe Campbell. There was similar talk about him being a future NHL'er, too, with his size.
He really IS a big boy. He looks like a monster in the action shot below:

I think what really did him in was the prediction before last season that Maine would be lucky to win 10 games. Nobody's ever going to let him forget that one.
Michigan Hockey: We'll win 10 games (with Montoya, preferably).

Hybs - I am not sure Campbell wouldn't have panned out had he been given more of a shot. Some of us thought he could be pretty good with more pt. For whatever reason, he was in the dog house.
Also - Jimmy Kilpatrick (sp.) has committed elsewhere, I believe to CC. He was a guy UW brought in but probably did not have a full schollie for.

Sags-
I have to agree with you on this one, they should have left Campbell in Des Moines for another season so he could get stronger and continue to develop. This was another botched recruiting mess as if I recall, Reimers flunked out and they had recruited no one on defense so they rushed Campbell who was not physically or mentally ready for UW
