Indeed, Garrett is only a junior now. I wonder what his reasoning is for going to GB over NTDP?

Andy Bohmbach I have heard great things of, not just from the state tourney but from others also. I think he's going to be a future NHL guy from what I've heard.

Pat Tiesling is supposed to be very good with Joel Sauer just below him.

There is not a Kessel or Ryan Suter in this group, so it is too early to say (we need to get on this guy now). That said, watch these three develop over the next year and the thought may change.

Is Bohmbach the one who moved to Wis from Minnesota or do I have him mixed up with someone else?

Bohmbach's probably Badger material. He looked very impressive at the State tourney this year as a junior. It'll be interesting to see how he does next year in Waterloo. He's a scorer!

Speaking of Bohmbach, here's the Protected List for the USHL. The USHL draft is TOMORROW at 1:00. It'll be interesting to see how high Gorowsky goes. I heard a few weeks ago that Sioux Falls was strongly looking at taking him first overall. It'll be interesting to see if he falls some, though, due to previous injuries.

Dan Swanson, the WI Mr. Hockey, was originally from MN, I believe.

I read on POI that Bohmbach moved to Hudson from Red Wing.

Thanks raindog. I think you are correct (read it someplace --- not POI).

I wonder if he has any interest in UW, yet?

With the first pick in the USHL draft, the Sioux Falls Stampede select...

Tom Gorowsky!

The top 4 has some very familiar names: Gorowsky, Sawatske, Pearce and Kerns.

Kerns is going to light it up I believe, once he gets players at his level to be on his team. I have a feeling we missed on not offering him, but I guess it is a little risky offering a guy out of a Wisconsin High School...

I know there were comments made as to grades maybe being an issue w/ Kerns getting into UW?? I don't know if there is any truth to that or if that was a case of sour grapes/excuse making for how a good prospect from our own backyard got away. Regardless, I think we are pretty set at forward for the next 2-3 years with eligibility left, incoming recruits, and players already commited.

I second that. At the Showcase tournament he had another gear that nobody on the ice had. It was a real treat to watch him work.

It'll be nice to see a kid follow WI HS track and make good.

This article seems to sort of push UMD to the side, mentioning them only in passing. It mentions he might play two years in the USHL and if that is the case, maybe UW can get into the mix later after all.

I think you are reading too much into it.

Cap Times article about the USHL draft and Nhl rankings today mentions Kerns plans being 1 year in the USHL before UMD. I'm sure if he were to struggle that could change.

Sags

Any (more) inside news on Lutz --- or was that just an estimated guess (and I think a good guess)?

I remember talk on the WPH site prior to Kerns committing to UMD was that he basically had no chance of getting into the UW academically.

That being said, I'm sure he'll come back to haunt the Badgers..the ones that leave always do.....

Bohmbach did play very well at State this year. Earlier in the season he and Cory Comstock were benched for the first period in the Marshall Holiday Tournament for team infractions. It was probably the smartest thing their coach did because neither player was much of a team player before that. The Hudson season seemed to turn around after that incident.

No sour grapes...grades are a definite issue. He was on the Gamblers last year, but couldn't get into their preferred high school. He's a very good kid, with a nice family, but put on the skates and it's transition time.

I am not following the thread very closely, but since he'd have to sit a year anyway, maybe he'd come to UW? He would move in right after Bruckler leaves after this season. This is provided he beats out Elliott, but what a great situation it would be for him to go to Goalie U! I am guessing he goes major juniors or signs a pro contract though. If not, I don't see a better option for him than here.
