Do you think Coach Hynes might be trying to persuade him to go to college somewhere?

We are asking because we want bad as hell for Kessell to attend UW.
Hynes has a ton of connections w/ Coach Eaves and obviously he recently coached at Wisconsin. I doubt Hynes has a Bucky poster in his office but if kids are interested about UW I would think Hynes can fill them in.
I can't find the article right off but Kessell's cousin play for Mich and of course the NDTP team can see them play pretty easily. Kessell's dad went to college in Michigan so I am wondering if there is more loyality to Mich over Wisco? I hope not but....

I feel it's 50/50 between Michigan and Wisconsin for Kessel's ultimate decision. Madison is his home, but I'm sure he's heard all about Michigan from David Moss (his cousin). He said once Moss was his inspiration for starting to play hockey, which is interesting, but I really think both schools have an excellent shot at landing him.

Hynes has also coached at BU and UMass-Lowell. I don't think it'd be in his best interest to be steering kids in one direction or another.

I agree and that is what I stated. It would not be Hynes place to recruit for UW while coaching at the NDTP. However, he does KNOW about UW and IF kids ASK him.....he can give them some firsthand knowledge.

It was just a sarcastic comment, because he (Kessel) was apparently playing on a line with Auffrey and Skille, both UW recruits, and Hynes was a UW coach until the middle of this season. I agree, I don't honestly think Hynes is (or should be) trying to get players to go to one school or another. I don't think it happens much. Look at Mark Oseicki in GB - a lot of the best Gamblers have gone to schools other than UW.

Speaking of Osiecki I noticed on the front page article on uscho they stated that Osiecki would apparently not be the next UW assitant.
Getting Kessel would be gravy, they already are going to have alot of forwards for 2005-06 season. Of course anytime you have the talent like Kessel you hope to hell you can land him. No matter how long he stays in school.

If you get the big name guys others are sure to follow.

Yes, I'm well aware Hags is regarded as the top D-man in his age group, and he is doing the same thing thelen did, accelerating a year. I have only actually seen him play a handful of times as a freshman at AHA before he bolted for ann arbor, and he had all the makings of a stud. I was just stating the fact that he doesn't boast gaudy or amazing statistics right now.
Abilitywise, for a D-Man to leave after 1 or 2 years, as was speculated by a few rube badger fans, that would be extremely rare, as even the best of all gopher D men, Leo, stayed 4 and probably wasn't ready to bolt until after his junior year.
Maybe Hagemo will show up and be Bobby Orr right away (sarcastic), but I think the safe bet is that he will hang out for atleast 3 years.

Maybe it's the pessimist in me, but I dont' think I'll see Kessell in a Badger uni.

Has Kessel definately decided to go the route of college, or is he still 50/50 on MJ or NCAA?
So those of you that dont think they will see him in a Badger uni(my opinion is basically 50/50 on UM or UW for his destination), do you think that playing with two Badgers and doing quite well at the Under 18s will help our cause? Especially if they chat up with him about why he should come here?

Also, during what signing period would he be likely to announce where he is going?

He's also playing with 4 future Wolverines (Lerg, Porter, Johnson, Kolarik). I think there might be some friendly suggesting from everyone but nothing that will seriously sway him.

An article in the Detroit Free Press in March said that he was going to try to narrow his choices to one-two schools by the fall. And in The Wolverine earlier this year he was talking about how he hadn't really thought about it all that much yet, and he was just trying to help his team win hockey games at the moment....

Very true, but I think con1977 meant the fact that he's on a line with 2 future Badgers, Auffrey and Skille. I would really be curious to see how much campaigning goes on though. In a lot of situations I wouldn't feel right saying to my teammate "come to Wisconsin with me, screw Michigan" or vice versa. Anybody know?

Jo Pa scored a SH goal in Waterloo's series opening 3-2 win in Danville. He has 3 G & 2 A in 6 playoff games to rank 7th in playoff scoring in the USHL. Hopefully he can carry over his point per game average right into college this fall. Him with Auffrey & Ford should give our offense a shot in the arm. That, and a year of experience under the belt of some of the existing youngsters.
