Independent of stats, or inflated stats, Gorowski and Anderson are very impressive players.
Gorowski has good size, a good shot (that is made even more impressive by the fact that he actually keeps his head up while shooting), great hands, scoring touch around the net, and a good stride. He is a very good pickup for Wisconsin, he will be a very good WCHA player once he makes the adjustment.
To me, the amazing thing about Anderson his I did not see him press for offense at all during the tournament. He let the game come to him and then made the percentage play and was very good defensively as well. For a guy to play like that and rack up 84 points as a D man is very impressive. I think that also lends itself to the idea that his game will transfer well as he moves up levels in hockey.

Anyone have thoughts on whether we will keep a Drewiske-Piskula line together here, or will they be broken up?? I know that we have a lot of Righty Dmen, but I do have to wonder if the chemistry would be something that Eaves would wont to carry over and at least try to see if it translates to the NCAA game.

I believe Drewiske will be ahead of Olinger and Sawatske and likely be a regular playing in our top six all year next year. I would say Piskula is behind both Olinger and Sawatske. That said, don't expect a lot of games out of Piskula next year. They likely won't be paired together.

I think you may be wrong on not seeing many games out of Piskula. Olinger, Sawatske, Likens and Gilbert are all Righthanded Dmen. Suter is a lefty, who may or may not be with us next year. I assume because Drewiske is paired with Piskula, that he is a righty because I know Piskula is a lefty. I dont know offhand what hand Klubby is, but if he is a lefty then we have three leftys in Piskula, Klubby and Suter. On the sheer merit of his handedness we should see Piskula a lot more than you think.

Drewiske is lefthanded. Klubbertanz is right handed. Its seems that Piskula has been added more for additional depth then immediate playing time. Especially during the World Juniors stint when we'll be without Suter, Likens and maybe Klubertanz. Many times in the past we;ve had 2 left handed 2 men playing together, Krall and Boeser alot last year for one.

Got it, I just figured that with the light lefty load we picked him up for that position. My mistake.

Congrats to Tom Gorowsky who capped off a memorable weekend by being named Minnesota's Mr. Hockey today. Any of you old school Minnesota fans know how many times a player has won the state title AND Mr. Hockey in the same year?

Crowley and Checco did the double I think. Marty Sertich?
Spehar did not, Taffe did not, Paul Martin did not, Guyer did not.
Let's see, Miskovich, No, Pohl, I think won state as a Junior, not as a senior like Spehar.
Pre Checko, I don't know.

Checco and Crowley were the only other two to win the state title and Mr. Hockey in the same year before this year.

How about guys that did both but not in the same year?
Spehar
Pohl
Are there any others?

Not bad company but how many players have won the state title, Mr. Hockey AND had hernia surgery in the same year?:-))
Hopefully he can finally heal up now over the offseason. In looking at some of the top MN HS seniors that moved on to the USHL this season, the results in terms of stats have been all over the board, really. It'll be real interesting to see how his game translates at the USHL level next season.

Hybs,
My former college roomates (one from Edina, the other from Woodbury) were very impressed with Gorowsky. They both were of the consensus that Gorowsky and RJ Anderson were the best players on the ice every game of the tournament.
They also mentioned Gorowsky's only attribute that needs attention is his skating, but only to the extent that his other attributes (strong on his skates, outstanding scoring ability, and great work ethic) seemed to accentuate his skating ability as being average. However, Mr. Woodbury said he's got good acceleeration, a strong stride, but that his skating just wasn't as good as the rest of his overall game.
It will be interesting to see how Gorowsky fares in the USHL next season. This is a kid with a world of talent, and with a solid USHL season under his belt, could be a real contributor in '05.
Wisconsin Hockey: Mr. Hockey to....Wisconsin!

Joe-
I'm relieved to hear that they don't give the Mr. Hockey award away to bad players!:-))
I'm looking forward to seeing the tape of him but from all I've heard about his game, Hammy's comparison to Rene Bourque might be pretty accurate.
His #15 should be available by the time he gets here, too, since Talafous will be gone at that point, FWIW.

Smart arse... :)
And for Wisconsin...a freshman from Mt. Iron Minnesota, #15, Tom Go-ROW-sky!
Wisconsin Hockey: Relieved.

With a goal & 3 assists, Jo Pa resurrects this thread off page 5. With this performance, he is now 16th in the USHL in scoring with several in front of him having played in more games.

...how about a hat trick from Matt Ford on Saturday. Oh yeah,
Jo Pa chipped in a goal and Drewiske had an assist.

ooof.
Kessel to the OHL? Maybe. Bleah!
So Bertram to BC, Bradford to ?, Kessel to ?.
We have Pearce and Morin on our radar supposedly. Who
is the next scorer we should be going after? We still lack offense and need to address it.
