Since posting that update on Ford about 15 minutes ago, he's added 2 more goals and an assist for the hat trick...and more importantly, SF's 2nd win a row!!!
Congrats Matt! 7 goals, 2 assists and 2 wins in 3 games this weekend!
Wisconsin Hockey: USHL POW!
Eric
I think you mentioned a week or two ago that there were 2 hockey players with USA Hockey coats on. You said (I think) that one was Pearce, did you ever find out who the other one was?
Are we still in the hunt for Morin?

Hanson from Waterloo has commited next year to Minnesota State. I believe the WSJ mentioned we were interested in him maybe in 05 if he chose to play another year of juniors. The best players from the state tournament to keep an eye on (I think they are D1 possibilities after juniors):
BJ Gottsacker
Andy Bombach
Brendan Olinyk
Matt Wolofseft (spelling error I'm sure).
All could do real well in the USHL next year if they choose.
Jeff Christenson is over-rated to me. I'll leave it at that. Sadly, the north definitely had the potential D1 players and I did not see the same individual talents from the south.

sags, no idea who you could be talking about. maybe wolosek from rapids. another guy who i really liked was sauter from Superior. played D, don't know size but layed some good hits and moved the puck well.

He committed to BC. Actually, I'm not sure we ever were involved, other than a few of us on this thread hoping, I never really saw anything to indicate there was ever any mutual interest.
Great to see Matt Ford stay redhot with a hat trick and an assist on Sunday vs. Green Bay. He had what I would have to qualify as an AMAZING 12 shots in that game. He is now third in the USHL in scoring behind Howe (Goofer recruit) and Stastny (DU recruit). Hopefully he stays hot right into next fall as we are still extremely challanged offensively.

Gorowsky had a goal (and another disallowed) and an assist in Centennial's 3-2 win over Hill-Murray.
Joe Pavelski is currently picking things up a bit with 17G 24A, good for 19th in USHL scoring. As has been mentioned Matt Ford is red hot and is now 3rd in USHL scoring with 32G 30A, and Kyle Klubertanz is currently 6th in USHL D scoring with 6G 19A.
Ford could be a real sleeper. He does have the benefit of playing on a line with Michigan State recruit McKenzie who from all accounts is a pretty darn good player.
UW is in the hunt for Morin and Pearce.

I usually follow things a bit closer, but tell me about Morin.

Morin is an NTDP D. He's got decent skills, but had a really difficult time adjusting in Ann Arbor.
He's got good size, good skating ability, and I would classify the young man as a solid, stay at home type. He'd be a nice addition with Klubertanz, Likens, and Gilbert and the propensity to join the rush.
Morin's name has been kicked around in the past. We'll see if UW has a need, and he might be a kid who ends up in the USHL for one season before moving into D-1.

He is only 15 and will turn 16 in April!! Here is a blurp on his OHL potential:
OHL DRAFT RANKINGS
By the www.hockeyscouting.ca staff
These ratings appeared in the November issue of The Hockey Scouting News. As these ratings were done in mid-October, they will be subject to rapid change. The next draft list will be out in January 2003.
1. Matt Corrente (Vaughn Vipers Junior A) D 5-11 175 lbs
Bruising defenseman can beat you with his size, speed and strength at this level of hockey. Plays like a young Adam Foote.
2. John Hughes (Whitby Minor Midget AAA) F 5-9 170 lbs
One of the best 1988 born talents right now. Has tremendous vision and skills with the puck, will be a big time player at any level of play he chooses to play at. A threat every time he is on the ice. Gifted scorer.
3. Chad Morin (USA NTDP) D 6-0 192 lbs
Playing for the USA NTDP this season, a very good offensive talent. An up tempo player with very good hands and hockey sense, one of the best offensive defenseman in the 1988 age group of players.
Let's hope he stays w/ the U-18 team next season where John Hynes can tell him of the virues of UW and coach Eaves!!

I'm not sure who the other kid was but have heard that Pearce was one of them.
I haven't heard anything recently about Morin.
Last week's Thurs/Fri recruit was a kid from the Texas Tornado. I believe his name was Anthony so in looking at their roster, I'm guessing it was Anthony Pellarin. Pellarin's a late '83 forward from NY. In 47 games he has 23-31-54 but what probably makes him most appealing to Eaves is that he has 12 PPG's which I believe is tied for 2nd in the NAHL. I have no idea where he'd fit into the equation since they seem pretty stocked at forward for the next couple years PLUS they've had Kilpatrick, Hanson and now apparently Pellarin in for visits. We'll see what happens....

Doesnt the guy from Eden Prarie look like Dany Heatley?
The other USA U-18 player that was in town with Pearce was Jason DeSantis.

Thanks, I figured it had to be one of the many uncommitted NTDP dmen. Interesting that the staff has been searching the world over for lefty's yet DeSantis is a righty. A little info on the kid:

Just thinking out loud but here are some of the known visitors that have yet to commit..that we've heard of:
Jimmy Kilpatrick, Josh Engel, Jordan Pearce, Jason DeSantis, Christian Hanson, Joe Piskula, Anthony Pellarin?....
Some of an email I got yesterday about Kyle Kuk:
"I talked to Kyle a bit on Saturday. He has a mild concussion. Should be back soon, this is the first one for him, so that's a positive since he isn't one of those players that has a history of them. He said he's keeping his options open for college, but Wisconsin is on the short list of his preferences. But he said right now he's focusing on getting back on the ice and trying to help the team clinch the regular season championship."

He verballed to Mankato. I think Eric is just wondering with all the guys taking visits where Eaves is going to make room for any more forwards for 2005.

Thanks for posting that article, Hammy! Quite possibly the two favorites for Mr. Hockey meeting up on Thursday in Gorowsky and Hillen..should be a great game.
btw, I listened to the last Sioux Falls game on the web and Goligoski (The future Gopher I believe) certainly seems to be a nice addition. Of course anyone with a pulse would be a nice addition to that team. The announcer seemed very impressed with him in between showering a certain Badger recruit with praise!:-))
Stastny named team MVP over Howe???
Also, just to clear something up. I never said I thought Motherwell was headed to Wisconsin (as mentioned on POI). I mentioned that a USHL observer told me that he was the best uncommitted player left in the USHL so I figured it'd be worth following his progress. I like to think of it as I "discovered" Brett Motherwell much like hockeyscouting "discovered" future mega-star Stephen Balint!:-))
Wisconsin Hockey: Welcome to Cheeseville!:-))
