You can have Mike Brodeur, he's pretty good. ;)

Starter might be stretching it, but 2nd line for sure.

Good news:

Brian Elliott is officially a Badger!

Judging from Coach Eaves' comments, he'll be a lot more than just an emergency goaltender if he's looking to get him into 10 to 12 games this season.

This may not be the best year for Badger hockey, but it will be exciting to get a look at all the new prospects!

Great to see him get through admissions. I would have suspected as much that he will be expected to play in a dozen games. He has to have some talent if the Sens drafted him in the 9th round (which is good in that the Sens have a history of drafting well). He is young and sounds like he's moving into college a year earlier than he might have had we not had the unexpected spot open up for him. Hopefully under Howard's tutoring, he can develope into a real good goalie more so than just a stop gap.

According to both someone at the KC and some Badger hockey players, we've got Dany Heatley's little brother now!!!!! :)

(As in, on the team, not as in, stuffed in bigus's closet or something like my roommate first thought when I announced this... she's not a big hockey fan.)

Word is that he had offers from other schools, but his family is going to pay for him to go here (what with his big bro making plenty of $$ in the NHL now and all).

I believe his name is Mark Heatley and he is someone I had monitored. A very good walkon, similar to Ross Carlson or Tom Sawatske. I believe Mark also played his junior hockey for the Calgary Canucks, the team Dany came to us from. I hope your right, he might be a very good player for us, or at least a role player.

I'm told the Mark Heatley rumors are TRUE...he is walking on with the Badgers and has been with the team this week.

This is pretty interesting considering he stated that he'd basically like to go anywhere but Wisconsin because of the huge skates he'd have to fill from Dany. I know he had been looking at some Eastern schools.

It'd be nice to see him develop into a solid 3rd/4th line guy in time. He's certainly not going to be Dany and I think most of us realize that. Another solid addition by Eaves, though!

Think he'll be rollin' around campus in the brand new truck his brother gave him for being named the MVP at the All-Star game?:-))

...by Eaves and Co. Eaves just continues to convince kids to come for no money or the promise of future money that other schools are willing to pay for (I'm sure it helps having big bro making good coin!!). Must have done some kind of recruiting job as I do remember the talk about anywhere but UW. At 6-3 & 195, hopefully the younger Mr Heatley can become a power forward with some presence. I think with the makeup of the current roster, we certainly could use a physical player up front. Did I miss the announcement about a JV hockey team?? We certainly have enough players in the program to field 2 teams. Should make for some intense competion for playing time on the third and fourth lines.

Just my opinion(and I do hate to be negative...), but the last thing Mark Heatley is is a power forward. Everything that Dany had that made him so great are all the things Mark lacks in terms of committment, drive, passion, etc.

As far as a walk-on goes, it's good - but I would expect not much impact and return from Mark.

hope he proves me wrong.....

...any feedback on Dan Bertram's visit(s)? I think he has dropped in on UW & the Goofers at least unofficially. Any idea about when he expects to make a decision, who he's looking at, ect. Too bad about your opinion on Heatley as I imagine you've seen him play a few times. I take it that he is not physical? I think everyone here knows he is not the second coming of Dany, but a good 3rd/4th line player for no scholarship money would be nice.

Great news that Mark has decided to follow in his dad and Dany's Footsteps. Obviously there's going to be the average hockey fans at home and on the road that expect big things of him because of the name, but Dany has become so well known know that it really wouldn't of mattered what school he ended up at.

I know Dany is still around the Madison area quite often as he enjoyed his time so much and I got to believe that rubbed off more then anything else on Mark.

I think I was too harsh on Mark - he has the tools to be a player. Maybe getting away from home is just what he'll need to put more/all aspects of his game together.
He was definitely not a physical player in the AJ.

Your guess would be as good as mine on Bertram. I have heard everything from a second year with the Kodiaks, to the possibility of fast tracking the last 1 1/2 years of high school he has left - finishing this year and going NCAA next, to going to the Vancouver Giants next season. The family will certainly not rush into any decision and rumors will abound in the mean time.

I think I may start a Kodiaks recruit thread here at USCHO when our season begins, offer some info on our outstanding recruits(not just those named Bertram!) this year - we have flat out unreal talent up front, straight out of Midget AAA.
Ryan Armstrong and Lee Jubinville each scored a pair of goals the other night in an exhibition game versus a fairly veteran laden Sherwood Park team. These two were 1-2 in AMHL scoring last season, Bertram was 6th. We also have Mason Raymond(who was the best forward at our rookie camp last week) and Logan Gorsalitz(who played with us throught the playoffs last year) all whom were among the scoring leaders in that league.... as well as several other talented young kids.

Appreciate the info Web Guy. Do you know where I could find a picture of Bertram?

Hello everyone!

Before I get all you Badger fans screaming at me, I just wanted to get Webguy's assessment of the two Kodiak players - McKnight and Sharp early in preseason camp?

How are they looking? Any ideas if any other of those younger prospects are thinking about following in their footsteps to either Wisco or UMD?

Thanks for any info :))

PS. I will not post again on this thread...but, just wanted to get webguy's thoughts. thanks!

A good article on Matt Auffrey and how hard he's been working this offseason:

GB Gamblers (Klubertanz):

Interesting to see that the Badgers had interest in their new goaltender, Davenport. Can you imagine if Osiecki lost both Holt to UNO and Davenport to Wisconsin last minute? I'm sure he's pretty relieved to at least have one. Sounds like he has some high expectations for Klubertanz..not that it's a surprise..but it'll be interesting to see how he does now that he's probably the #1 on d.

Auffrey 6' 2" 203 lb. in 03-04 for Under-18.

Should arrive at Wisconsin in '04 weighing at least 212-215. Has strong legs and good speed. Shot has become stronger and accurate. Wins corner battles, and takes the puck to the net well, like Gopher's Vanek.

One word on Niter and Sharp:
Awesome

bigger, stronger, faster
As Muspratt(UAF) starts the season recovering from shoulder surgery it looks like they will be playing between Lee Jubinville(remember that name). He led the AMHL in scoring last year has has just lit up the pre-season.
Regarding our other players out of Midget, I'm guessing we have at least 4 rookie forwards who will virtually write their own ticket anywhere south: Bertram, Jubinville, Raymond, Armstrong are all outstanding... and there are several others. Kyle Smith(defense) was our scholastic player of the year last season and will definitely be going somewhere. I don't think any of them have yet considered much about where they may be leaning toward.

Thanks Webguy!

I am a huge UMD fan and I know I am on a Badger thread. So, could I get your e-mail address so I can e-mail on another thread or independently?

Thanks :) Also, thanks to the Badger fans who let me "sneak in " on our thread for a comment or two. I do appreciate it.
