...being the same as football. I'm assuming. I think we could use another forward that is a snipper too. We'll add Aufrey/Pavelski and lose Rene. I think the net result is that we remain a little challenged offensively. While I hope we make some progress from with in with a year of experience for the freshman/sophs, it would be nice to add a sniper. Although, where would all these players play. We would get to the point where there are as many people in street clothes, as players actually playing.

The final signing period for hockey is April 16th-August 1st, I believe so we're nowhere near the deadline.
I would assume the UND series (soldout KC) would be a big recruiting weekend so I'm not convinced anything will happen soon.
As much as we need help on d, it's quite obvious we could use more scoring. Spriko is a midget but appears to be a scoring machine. A Kuk/Spirko package, perhaps?:-))

We have 3 commitments that signed LOI in the fall signing period for next year. Kyle Kubertanz a D from GB Gamblers, Joe Pavelski a forward from Waterloo in the Ushl from Prover, WI, and Auffrey from the US national developement team. All 3 are very highly though of and should be immediate contributors. We lost out on another highly rated dman from the US developmental team Haegemo a week or two before the early signing period he reniged on his verbal commitment and picked his beloved home state goofers. That unfortunately has sent us scrambling for a left handed defensman for next season.

Good news on the signing period in that it gives us some time to evaluate and make a good decision.

Hey Pete, I see you have joined us on the other side of the addiction:D (I had to check the profile to make sure my hunch was right, and lo and behold it was my bretheren that yells through the crack to the right of the goal judge:) right next to me)

Any rumors about anyone leaving after this year who may have a full scholarship that doesn't play much? He (I think he has a full ride) can't be happy. That would free up some room to get a sniper for next year. We have had good luck through the years getting late signees (Bruckler, .........).

Of course their were rumors in the WSJ that Gibson was considering transfering. And since he hasn't play since about October it wouldn't be a surprise. If that would happen though I'd prefer we keep that scholarship open for 2005. As Talafous and Bruckler will be the only loses and already Skille and Olinger will go on scholarship for that season. Of course Suter will likily be involved somewhere as well. But the 2005 has alot more high end talent left then the 2004 and we have pretty solid depth for next season up front as the Freshman should only improve.

It looks like UW is the new pride on ice with these recruits coming in.;)

I believe this question has been asked before on this thread (and never answered) but does anyone know if Tom Gorowsky (the leading scorer in MN HS hockey) is the son of former Badger Dan Gorowsky who was on the '81 National Championship team? It lists Dan's hometown as WBL, so I suppose it's possible.
Just curious...

Jack Skille was at the U17 Tournament, but was unremarkable.
The story of the Tourney was a lightning fast centreman from the Gold Medal winning Team Ontario.
MVP and the talk of the touranment was a kid named Andrew Cogliano.
You guys should try to recruit him. You may as well go after the best. :D

Hey bonehead...
Is that why Skille has been playing on the U-18 club for the last few games? He was so unremarkable that he got "promoted". He even has scored a goal with a couple of assists. Unremarkable indeed.
Skille is considered to be a future NHL first round pick. He's every bit the prospect Cogliano is.
Welcome back...we missed your entertaining stupidity. :D

BTW,
Surpised that Hunwick (after a very fast start) has faded while lesser talents like Suter (3G 11A) and Likens (2G 10A) are leading the D corps?
Stats...the big lie.

Hunwick is doing just fine, thanks. He played at least as well as Suter and Likens at the WJC. Michigan has more depth on defence so they don't need to rush their freshmen.
Jack Johnson is a bigger, meaner version of Suter. He has the same number of U17 points in the same number of games as Suter did 2 years ago. Plus he has 30 pounds on Suter at the same stage. This kid will be a scary defenceman.
Cogliano clearly outplayed both Skille and Kessel at the U17 tournament. He was head and shoulders the best player there.
Wolverines also have 3 of the top 5 U18 scorers to this point. I bet that Porter will join Lerg and Kolarik at the top of the list before the year is done, giving U of M a sweep of the top scorers.

HH, I suppose that how someone does in one single tourney that lasts what I assume is no more than 10 games per team is true tell of how good a player is. If that were the case then your buddy Hunwick is crap because he didnt do anything at the WJC, but you dont see others trolling in your threads to tell you that. Its called a slump or the defense keying in on a player when they are on the ice to limit opportunities. Also, I suppose you watched all of the games to know that Skille made no prominant contribution to the team. Goals and assists are part of what a forward can bring to the table, but there is so much more. Why dont you come back when you have something constructive and useful to say.
Edit: Im sure thats why we are playing Suter so much, to rush him, not because he is hands down the best dman on the team and one of the best in the country (and sorry, but Mr. Hunwick doesnt get on that list, that list is populated by seniors and juniors save for Suter) Hunwick isnt playing that much not because of the depth of your d, but because he isnt that good. Give him a few years and we can talk how good he is, but he has a long way to go for development before he can be considered near the top. Suter is already there. If you had had Suter, he would be racking up a lot of ice time because there is always room at the top for the best no matter how much depth you have.

HH,
Now I am absolutely convinced you don't have the slightest clue regarding Hunwick. He played "just as well" as Suter? Is that why Suter PLAYED EVERY OTHER SHIFT down the stretch (along with Likens) while Hunwick was watching? Why wasn't Mr. Contribution playing at "winning time"? The answer is as obvious as you are clueless.
As for Cogliano...he's an excellent prospect. Skille's every bit as good. Write it down.
I'll take Auffrey over Lerg or Porter (who's not been productive at all this season) anytime. JMHO.
As for puffing of recruits, I'm happy as a clam with Klubertanz, Auffrey, and Pavelski coming in.

Dearest Hobart, do you watch hockey games?
I mean other than the ones you're beloved wolverines play in?
I would argue Suter is already a top 10 D-man in the NCAA and maybe even higher. I know you're all about stats but it doesn't matter to me that Likens and Suter have surpassed your 2 boys hunwick and that wookie out east. There's more to playing D than scoring, namely, PLAYING D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a concept. Oh, and btw, Suter and Likens are d*** good at that part of the game.
As for the 04 prospects we won't know until this time next year who is panning out or not, possibly even later.
Last year Pavelski (UW 2004) had like 1000 points, this year his stats are close to a point per game (last I checked) which is down from last year, does that mean he suddenly sucks and UW's incoming class has lost luster?
Don't think so.
Interesting you crawl out of hibernation now that UM has won a few.
BTW - I don't recall you trolling when UW beat the blue 3-1. HMMM. Did Hunwick not play that game??

Actually I don't think he even watches any UM games---check the Michigan "Weekend worth remembering" thread to see how warmly Hobart is regarded by other UM posters.
Not that Hunwick isn't a fine young player, but to say that he's in Suter's class right now is beyond ridiculous.

You guys always start this off by hyping your recruits like there is no tomorrow. No one else has a 10,000 post thread detailing every bowel movement of every possible recruit two years ahead of time.
I only throw some contradictions in to bring you back to earth.

Goog point solovsfett, where was Blowbart when his vastly superior team could not beat a team of mostly Freshman/Sophs at home?
