Eric, FWIW, I understand that Bertram basically steps onto the first or second line wherever he chooses to go. Cracking the lineup isn't a question for him. Then again, I guess the same was probably said for Pineault, so who knows.

And now with his knee injury, it's probably more in doubt. ... never mind.

You're absolutely right! I guess what I meant by the Badgers being stacked was that they already have a lot of scholarship $ invested in forwards for '05. Certainly there are guys that could probably crack the lineup talent-wise but do they have room for 17-18 forwards?

Of course, Eaves has proven to be very "creative" already in that he convinced an NTDP defenseman to walk-on (Sawatske), he landed a WJC player (Dowell) for less than a fullride and he added a solid 4th line LW'er in Mark Heatley for zero dollars. The more I know, the less I understand, I guess!:-))

GBPF-
Thanks for the info on Engel. As I said, I think the Badgers will try to bring in 3 more defensemen for next year. The way the paper made it sound, Engel would be for '04 while Kilpatrick would be for '05.

The US had a tough loss to Quebec yesterday, 4-1 in the U-17 Challenge. They're taking their frustration out on Germany today, leading 7-1 so far. Kessel has 2-2 and Skille has 1-1 for the good guys.

I know there is another Eaves, Tyler Eaves. How does he compare to Ben & Pat? I know Mark Johnson has kids coming up & I think Sauer. Gary Suter & Chelios have kids that are still a few years off. Anyone seen any of the above or other posible Badger legacies play &/or have an opinion of the talent levels involved &/or what year they would be a possible recruit for?.

As for legacy recruits, are there any Lundeen's, Maley's, Flatley's,
Lecy's, Houck's, Driver's..........?? (What a great history we have at UW)

Here is an article on Filangieri:

(the source seems to overhype quite a bit!!)
There is also an article on a player from AJHL, Malcolm Gwilliam. Any comments on him? Article claims that 10-15 colleges are watching/calling about him.

Eric, in one of your posts you remarked that Morin has an offer---from UW?

Bobby Suter has another son coming up. He'll be a senior in high school next year. He has always played for the Madison Capitols Tier 1 organization. I understand he could be playing in Green Bay next year.
Gary Suter has 2 boys, but they're still pretty young.
Bobby's son Garrett is big and tough and has the genes. He also has the "Suter Attitude".

In August, Chad Morin was quoted as saying he was interested in BC, Cornell, Maine, Wisconsin and Harvard. While he's an '88 playing with the U-17's, he's apparently going to accelerate for '05.

I believe Cheli's kids are 14 (Dean) and 12 (Jake). Both are playing with Little Caesars. I suppose it's only a matter of time before we start recruiting 12 year olds the way college hockey's going, so here's a look at young Jake!:-))

Brendan Vargas (son of Ernie) has been mentioned in the HockeyScouting site before.

There's a John Byce with the Madison Caps.

He recently committed to Michigan Tech.

Michigan State just got a commitment from Matt Allen for '05. That's hardly of concern to Badger fans but he is a linemate of Brock Bradford at Coquitlam. Couldn't hurt the Sparty's chances at landing a player everyone seems to be after..we'll see what happens.

Wisconsin Hockey: How good can a Tech recruit be?:-))

Sorry to steal your handle for a subject line Eric. Winning the WJC should again reaffirm Eaves as one of the elite college coaches and do nothing but help open doors for UW recruiting. Hynes back w/ the U-18 should continue UW's influence on recruits there which over time would have been on the decline otherwise. Has anyone ever heard us linked to Stasney of the USHL. Looks to be the best uncommited forward and had a great Viking Cup (son of a former NHLer to boot).

markwojo-

The Badgers don't need any more centers for '04. Joudrey, Dowell, Pavelski and Burish is as good as the Badgers have been down the middle in quite some time.

Finding dmen is priority #1 at this point!

Wisconsin Hockey: Hi, I'm Mike Eaves, I just won the WJC....

Hope he lands in ND as that seems to be a black hole for talented players. Thats better than ending up in the WCHA. Eric, I think Eaves would find a spot for him despite our depth at center. You are right though, hopefully we hear of a couple of Dman making sommits for Spring signing soon. If Suter goes pro, we will really be thin for numbers on D.

Have you ever heard of Eric Springer? Where is he playing now?

hockeyscouting.ca says:

Another good Wisconsin 1989. Sees the ice well, moves the puck well and plays good solid defense.

Another future Badger?

Fast forward through the highlights of US games or watch an entire game. I can't wait 'til Klubertanz gets here. He can really skate and he'll certainly add a lot of offense.

Sags-

Have you seen Josh Calleja play this season up in New Richmond? I heard he has 24 goals and 14 assists in 10 games so far. I was very impressed with his play at state last year.

NR won a tourney up in Rochester recently against some decent MN teams. Calleja had 4 goals in the championship game against Rochester JM (ranked 12th in MN class AA). Sounds like a decent prospect..we'll have to see where he ends up in the jr ranks.

I wouldn't put too much stock in winning against any Section 1 (Rochester area) MN teams. That section is notorious for being the worst section of hockey in MN (I'd add "arguably" to that sentence but I don't think anybody who truly knows the scene can argue they aren't the worst). Of course, Notermann would tell you differently because his ego would be bruised to admit it since he coaches down there and he always thinks it reflects on him if people say they stink in that area. :D

The Minnesota site (pride on ice) and a thread here is claiming they landed a big time Canadian recruit. Any ideas?

Also, saw where DU may have gotten Stastny as a recruit.

Who are we after now?

Matt Auffrey continues to play well against college competition. He had a PPG in a 3-3 tie vs. LSSU last night.

The U-18 goalie, Jordan Pearce (32 saves vs. LSSU) is a name we'll have to remember. I'm sure he's probably in the mix to replace Bruckler in '05. I remember reading a while back that he had an offer from MSU already amongst others I'm sure.

My guy Motherwell had 2 assists last night. Kilpatrick had a goal. Engel and Klubertanz each had assists in USHL action last night. Trevor Ludwig had a goal for Texas.

Wisco recruit info:

US-18 SCORES THREE POWER PLAY GOALS IN 3-3 TIE

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – In frigid Sault Ste. Marie, MI the US-18 team scored three power play goals to earn a 3-3 tie with the Lake Superior State Lakers, marking the third consecutive season the two teams have played to a deadlock.

The red, white and blue scored the first goal of the game as Matt Auffrey (Evan Mills, NY) tallied at the 17:41 mark of the first session. Nate Hagemo (Edina, MN) sent the puck along the blue line to Chad Kolarik (Abington, PA) who fed it down low to the left face off circle where Auffrey walked in and fired a screamer past Lakers goaltender and Vancouver Canucks 2002 NHL Draft selection Matt Violin.

“Lake Superior plays very hard and made us play extremely hard as well,” said US-18 Head Coach John Hynes. “When you play against bigger teams and older guys we try to emphasis getting pucks to the net, which we where able to accomplish tonight.”

etc.

US-18 DEFEAT SOO THUNDERBIRDS IN SHOOT OUT

GAYLORD, MI – The US National Development U-18 Team earned a 4-3 win in a shootout contest against the Soo (Ontario) Thunderbirds at the Otsego Sports Complex in Gaylord, MI.

The US scored the first two of the night as Matt Auffrey (Evans Mills, NY) scored off a nifty feed from Jason DeSantis (Oxford, MI) while Tom Fritsche (Parma, OH) tallied just :37 into the second period. Nathan Davis (Rocky River, OH) had the final goal for the US with Fritsche garnering an assist on the goal.

Following a scoreless five-minute OT session Bryan Lerg (Livonia, MI), Chad Kolarik (Abington, MI) and Fritsche each scored to give the US the victory. (Auffrey, the first USA shooter, hit the crossbar, on a nasty backhand fake)

Chris Carlson (Plainfield, IL) made 20 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout.

etc.

They have to be disappointed with their performance last night. They tied a tier II Junior A team.
