Quote from Eaves on recruiting in todays WSJ:
"We're trying to find another left-handed defenseman. We're going to look for that first."
A lot of righty's on d next season as I mentioned somewhere in an earlier thread. I believe Suter would be the only returning lefty IF he comes back next season and I'm pretty sure Klubertanz shoots R.
My guy, Brett Motherwell, is a lefty and still on the board:

Wisconsin Hockey: Lookin' for a Lefty!
I am trying to figure out how many scholarships we have for 2004 and 2005.
Seniors:
Boeser
Bourque
Krall
Eichelberger
Woz...
Juniors:
Bruckler
Talafous
Leavitt's (??)
We have 3 signed for 2004. It has been written we have 1.5 left for 2004. We have Skille verballed for 2005.
Eaves says he wants a left-handed defenseman for 2004. We will need a goalie recruit for 2005. Bertram and Bradford are 2005. Filangieri is a highly respected defenseman for 2005.
Lawrence is a 2005. Eaves will have to get creative to sign some of the players WE want him to sign. How much room does he have?
We should have more room for 2006. Kessel is a 2006.

I was wondering if Maine was interested in any of the uncommitted NTDP players when they visited Maine. Maine has had faired well with the few (five) NTDP recruits it has landed. (I would like to have seen Heisten and Janik stay four years though. Might have helped in '02.)

I think that Eaves is going to have to be creative to bring in everyone that he wants (not to mention who we want him to bring in)
I believe that Levitt's money was distriputed among other players this year and will be uesd next year.
Suter's spot will open up when he leaves (praying for 2005).
I could also see Macmurchy and Gilber leave early in 2005 if they develop like they could. There is always the possibility of a player or two leaving for other reasons.

It really is impossible to project how much $ is left. I would think it's entirely possible that guys like Heatley (especially), Brandt and Sawatske could get some future money down the line, too, as they'll be fixtures in the lineup.
I remember an old article in which Chad Morin (an '88 d with the NTDP) had Wisconsin as the only Western school in his top 5. It sounds like he plans on accelerating for '05. Some of our Eastern friends pointed out that he's likely BC's for the taking (I believe he's related to JD Forrest), but he's another potential target that you were looking for.

As of the summer Motherwell already had offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Harvard, and BC. A lot has changed since then with schools (eg. BC), but that's where he was at.

Offers for '04 or '05, any idea? I wonder if his broken foot scared some teams away. I believe he missed about a month and a half.

Have any of you guys heard of Eric Lampe? He is with the Chicago Steel USHL. I went to highschool with his brother at East. Maybe UW should take a look at him.

I saw Lampe (and East) play in Sun Prairie early in 2002. Clearly the best player on the ice that night. Not a cherry-picker, as he did a nice job helping out in the defensive zone. With some seasoning, he could be a partial scholie kind of guy in a year or two.
Eric,
How concerned are you that we have had quite a lull without any positive recruiting news?
Have you heard of any recruits having campus visits recently?
Thanks

Part of the problem is that I believe there's only around 1.5 scholarships left for the next 2 seasons total as Olinger will go on scholarship after his Sophmore year, so he and Skille take up the Junior Class of Talafous and Bruckler. Of course Suter and anyone else leaving early would create more room.
I thought Olinger was promised the back end of Suter's scholarship. Who knows??
It is doubtful that they would not have 2 scholarship goalies on hand so there must be more left for 2005.

To answer your earlier question--I'm not worried at all considering how little scholarship money was left prior to the early signing period changing of the mind ordeal. This off week will give the staff a good chance to check out a Motherwell or someone else in person to fill that void.
You're right about Olinger. Dowell got 3 years, Olie got 2 and Brandt got 1.
There'll definitely be an '05 scholarship goalie but I'd be more inclined to wait and see on goalies since it's such a critical position. There are always good goalies available late..just look at Elliott.

solovsfett-
Here's the stats update for UW recruits that you were looking for on the other thread:
http://www.geocities.com/bulldogric.geo/recruits.html
Waterloo has to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year so far in the USHL. They were expecting big things this season and they're the 3rd lowest scoring team in the league. Things aren't much better for Klubertanz in GB. The Gamblers are the 2nd lowest scoring team in the entire league!!!
Klubertanz leads all USHL defensemen with 82 SOG! For some perspective, the most shots by a forward is 113.
Pavelski is the only Waterloo player in the top 25 scorers.

This somewhat relates to UW recruiting so I hope some UW fans can help me out. Apparently Andrew Gordon (Notre Dame Hounds) committed to SCSU recently. It was mentioned in the St. Cloud paper some time ago that he is good friends with Andrew Joudrey, and that he also had interest from UW at some point.
I can't find any information on this kid and was wondering if anyone had a link. It seems the Notre Dame site has little to offer. Thanks in advance!

In following Joudrey the last couple years, I got to know a former coach of his with the Dartmouth (Nova Scotia) Subways. Gordon (like Joudrey) is from Nova Scotia and followed Joudrey to the Subways and then onto Notre Dame. I remember him speaking highly of Gordon as a good D1 prospect to keep an eye on.
He's a LW, plays on a line with UND recruit Rylan Kaip. I believe he's in the 5'10, 185 range. Had 20-27-47 last year in 58 games as a rookie with ND. I don't see him amongst the league leaders yet this year but he's playing on the youngest team in the SJHL..a team that went through a 7 game winless streak this month so it's really not fair to judge his talent on stats alone, I'd assume. Hope that helps..I know Notre Dame's website does a HORRIBLE job promoting their players!
