Toronto - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Swift Current
Broncos forward Alex Leavitt is the CHL player of the week for the week
ending November 23 after scoring six goals and five assists for 11
points in four games.
Leavitt helped the Broncos to four wins last week. He started the week
with a pair of goals, including the overtime winner, and two assists in
a 7-6 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on November 18. He added two
goals in a 5-1 win over the Portland Winter Hawks on November 21, scored
the first goal in a 3-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on November
22 and finished the week with a goal and three assists in a 6-3 win over
the Saskatoon Blades on November 23.
The 19-year-old native of Edmonton, AB played two season with the
University of Wisconsin before joining the Broncos this season. He is
third in team scoring with 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 28
games.
This seems REALLY relavent to this thread. Too much turkey, turkey?

Obviously still hurts. Should of kept the player and let the coach go!

Actually, I'm sure some people are still interested in how Alex is doing (I am, anyway). But it has absolutely nothing to do with recruiting, which is what this thread is about.

If Leavitt and Eaves had never had their little run-in and if Leavitt was still with the team producing like he's capable of, I think UW could have possibley been a legit top 3 WCHA team this year.

maverickone - are you insane?
newman - no way Leavitt would fit into this team. I think he and Eaves had a difference of opinion (to say the least) that could not be overcome.
besides, I think UW's record so far indicates they're headed in the right direction.

Here are his numbers:
GP G Ast Pts PIM +/- SOG Sh%
Dan Bertram (87) 28 16 21 37 19 +14 101 .158
Can you say instant offense. Hey Webguy, seen any Wisconsin folks hanging around, as in stalking I hope. Would he be a nice piece of the puzzle to added into the mix when our current Fresh/Soph classes are in their Junior/Senoir years!!! Just in time for a Frozen Four in Milwaukee!!!

What is the latest on the Badger recruiting?
Are we pursuing any of the following?
C/F
Kris Chucko
Evan Rankin
D
Motherwell
Ludwig (his Dad was from Wisconsin)
Who else??
And for the following year, who is "winning" the Bertram and Bradford sweepstakes? Those two and Kessel appear to be the best of the uncommitted.

This bit on Ludwig mentions Ferris State and Providence as possibilities so I'm not sure how much interest the Badgers would have, but you never know...

It'll be interesting to see if the new assistant has any Western Canadian connections since he's from Calgary. It would certainly help his job status if he could work some magic with Bertram/Bradford or others.

I don't think I've ever heard this Bradford name before. What's his story?
Bradford plays in BCHL. Some so-called experts view him and Bertram the top two for 2005 from Canada for NCAAs. He is a little small though. Apparently, all the top schools are heavily recruiting both. Someone conjectured that if you get one you may get both.
I saw that Ludwig was named to Viking Cup team for USA and was curious who was interested in him. I can remember some great battles his dad had with the Badgers----I remember a game in Grand Forks where he and I think Todd Lecy(half his size) got into a big brawl. I think Badgers won the game in a blowout(maybe not a blowout....)
With a lot of verbals for 2005 coming in, what goalie do you think we are looking at for 2005?

Kolarik (Michigan 04) feeds Badger recruit Matt Auffrey (Wisconsin 04) for nice goal where Grandma hides the cookies, for lone USA goal in the second. Auffrey has a PP goal vs. Maine on assist from Kaiser (Mankato 04), and a goal vs. #1 Ranked Sioux. Can score vs. big teams!
Vs. Notre Dame a few weeks ago, he was very strong on offense, very skilled, generating plays, 2-on-1's against one of the amazing ND goalies.

Is Auffrey still playing center with the 18's? The Badgers still need one more center for next season and I'm wondering if Eaves is considering moving him into that slot like he moved Joudrey from wing to center.
Brett Motherwell is the highest scoring defenseman on his River City team despite missing 8 games due to injury. He has 8 points in 13 games. As I mentioned earlier, I was told about a month ago by a USHL observer that Motherwell is probably the best uncommitted player in the USHL. An offensive defenseman from Illinois..sounds like Badger material to me!

Auffrey hasn't played Center for quite a while. Would be capable of doing so, although he's a guy you want working in the corners. Red Line says he's a guy that is not easily knocked off the puck...he is winning an above average amount of battles down low, in the D-1 games. His Jr. A team in Syracuse, where he played with Schremp, used to practice cycling, and "down low" drills for an hour a day. That had a great deal to do with why he had a 27G, 31A season at age 15 in the Ontario Provincial Jr A League where our new goalie played.
He is a generally a right-handed LW, but is on the RW because LW-linemate Fritche doesn't like to play his off-hand. Auffrey can play all forward positions. Has been versatile his entire minor career. Has spent some time on the point on the PP, as well. But he's a better "wall man." See's the ice well and spins off fairly well.
Pavelski's the man at Center. And imagine, we shouldn't lose much the bulk of a team that is achieving well right now. Ryan, please stay!
Go Badgers, Beat DU tonite!
(Auffrey had two assists on one shift, earlier in the season when U-18's played DU). Brandon Scero (Ohio State 04) scored both, with the other assist going to Kevin Swallow, who is currently being recruited by Maine.

Kid-
Thanks for the update. The Badgers could really use some size on the wing, actually. He'll likely step in and replace Bourque at LW and the Badgers will have Earl, Auffrey, Licari and Heatley at LW next season..you could probably pencil that in right now.
Auffrey helped lead the 18's to a 4-2 win over Air Force today with 2 assists. A nice weekend for Matt! Congrats to John Hynes on what I believe might be his first win as a head coach.
I wonder how versatile Pavelski is in terms of positions. I know he's a center at Waterloo but the Badgers seem pretty set with Joudrey and Dowell up the middle. I wonder if they'll try to plug him in elsewhere to add some scoring to one of the top 2 lines. That, or you'll have some real nice depth next year at center with Joudrey, Dowell, Pavelski and Burish..that's pretty solid!
Hard to believe just a year ago we were using guys like Talafous, Heisler, Eichelberger, Gibson, etc. at center. Nothing against those guys but that's a pretty rapid upgrade.

Did you catch the Auffrey (2) assists at the game or on a website, if so which web site?
