America's highest paid university prez...RPI's Ms. "Show me the MONEY" Jackson is probably more than doubles or triples her $875k salary with 5 major board seats. At AT+T she just fired the one of the highest ranking women in corporate America....while the stock has plummeted....at the scadal-ridden NY Stock
Exchanged she just hired Thain as Chairman from Goldy Sachs...the most aggregious offender in the ongoing theft at the NYSE...maybe Calpers should name Thain personally in their class action seeking billions and billions in restitution. Now ...billions...that's the kind of money Ms. Jackson can relate to. Wonder how much time she is spending on the hockey isue at RPI..? Let's hope there are no crisises at Medtronic, Marathon Oil, and Federal Express.....geez...is she slaying off on RPI affairs or shareholder affairs at her 5 corporate boards? kash

....I predict Goldman Sachs will drop a big tax-deductible gift on RPI this year...in quiet recognition of the insider deal...Prez Jackson's hiring of #2 Goldman guy Thain to run the NY Stock Exchange. Thain will perserve the Goldman money gravy train...being one of the biggest floor specialist where they jam investors...and then make really big bucks in the "upstairs" operations. kash

Merry Christmas, everybody.

RPI has posted a flashy-looking brochure that seems to be aimed at D-III Presidents - produced by all 8 schools.

It's nice to know that the eight schools are taking this seriously, but I wonder if a flashy brochure will make the correct impression.

I liked both the brochure and the NCAA News article. People process information in different ways... why not have different items to facilitate this?
Re: the NESCAC reference (and relative standing in measures cited)... holiday chuckles for everyone!!! :D Makes for leisure reading ona Sunday afternoon. ;)

I PARTICULARLY like the argument that "a promise is a promise!".
Does anything more need to be said than that? Grandfathering is grandfathering, it doesn't expire.
It is a particularly succinct point that these schools have not been provided the money that NCAA does provide annually to the other, full D1 programs.

...hey RPI poor mouths on endowment and can't compete academicly with the Ivies. Well.."Money" Jackson is the HIGHEST paid college.university prez in the entire country at $875K per annum. More than Lawrence Summers at Harvard...and his hockey team is better. Cut her pay in half and fund more scholarships. Re;grandfathering....the season was November to March when approved for D1 play....now it is first week of October into April..."student-athletes???".....at least cut back to an Ivy season. kash

Kash, I'm watching your comments on President Jackson's salary with interest. On the one hand - I recently heard a speaker, CEO of his company, who mentioned that a "A player" performer is worth 50-to-1 against an average performer. Not just twice or good or 3 times, but actually pulls up the productivity and performance equivalent to 50 average contributors. On the other hand - I think there needs to be adequate fiduciary responsibility concerning compensation. Please read that as "don't forget to hire and attract and keep those good instructors". My son researched colleges very hard, and RPI is the Ivy League of the engineering schools. It competes with, and excedes, most other engineering programs. Michigan has a great great program but can't offer the personal attention available in a good private school. And I think I spotted a little ivy growing on the RPI campus last time I was up there...

.....unless one prefers that the Ivies are the Mit of undergrad liberal arts education. Ms. Jackson is wildly over-paid and over-extended....and probably makes another one million or more on her FIVE unrelated board seats. She is probably doing an injustice to RPI and/or the shareholders of those companies. I wonder how much money in charitable gifts those companies drop on RPI each year....in return for Ms. Jackson rubber-stamp votes in favor of inside management. kash

Kash, I finally agree with something you said.
I am sure that Ms Jackson hits up not only the companies on which boards she sits, but also her fellow board members.
And I am sure that she also is expected to donate to their special causes.
That said, is she the only College President that sits on corporate boards.
Are D-111 Presidents prohibited from sitting on corporate boards and if they do sit, do you not think that they are also looking for funds from those corporations and fellow board members.
I am sure that Ms Jackson and any other president that sits on corporate boards are doing so as part of their (public relations) job as President of their respective schools.
The fact that she is on these boards in an asset to RPI and I would bet that she is envied by her peers for her abilities and relationships with these companies and fellow board members.
She has developed quite a network for herself and RPI. And that alone may justify her salary.

Kash, OK I've heard of MIT and CalTech. But they don't have hockey, so they don't count! (grin)
For a variety of factors, my son picked RPI over MIT, and didn't apply to CalTech.
