USCHO article on the FARA recommendation: http://www.uscho.com/news/2003/11/13_007265.php
From the artlcle in USCHO:
The proposal is part of a sweeping Division III reform package that is in the finals legislative phase. It will be voted on by the President's Council at the annual NCAA Convention in January.
I thought the presidents council already gave it's go ahead. I thought the vote in January will be by all the membership.

It's interesting that a group that I assume represents the faculties of the DIII colleges recommends voting against the Proposal. I would have expected the faculties to be among the most against spending money on athletics -- even more so than college administrators.

Correct, vicb.
Pet peeve: when TV sportscasters don't know the rules of the game they are announcing. Sorry, USCHO, but this falls into the same category--and on an extremely important issue.
Thanks for posting the good news, cct2div3. Let's hope the FAR vote will have some influence on the people who cast the votes at the convention (the member presidents or their designees, usually the ADs).

I found the following in today's USCHO ECAC weekly column. It is worth sharing here, as it is extremely well written by Ryan Luley and sums things up perfectly IMO:
************************************************** **
As promised at the start of the season, each week we'd like to give a fan the opportunity to express their thoughts on an issue related to the ECAC. This week, we welcome Ryan Luley. The following is his "Two Minutes For ... " contribution. Readers are encouraged to submit their own thoughts to us at ecacwriter@uscho.com. Ryan, the stage is yours, and thanks!
"I love college hockey, I love the ECAC, and most importantly, I love my alma mater, St. Lawrence University; three significant reasons why I am writing this today. You see, in January at the NCAA Convention, [representatives from] some 400 Division III schools will decide whether St. Lawrence, Clarkson and RPI, among five other schools, should be allowed to offer scholarships for hockey, a sport in which all three 'play up' to Division I.
"The presidents and athletic directors at these institutions have made great points, provided valid statistics and generally have defended their collective cause very well. So, rather than regurgitate those points, I'd like to offer a fan's view of this issue.
"St. Lawrence is hockey. Hockey is St. Lawrence. Not every student at St. Lawrence derives pleasure or excitement from the hockey program, but by-and-large the campus comes alive in the winter for the hockey season.
"Division III might take away St. Lawrence's scholarships, but [it] can't take away Appleton Arena, the siren and 'Here Come the Saints,' the banners in the rafters, Clarkson vs. SLU and, most importantly, the tradition of Saints hockey.
"Hockey is part of the St. Lawrence experience whether you throw yourself in amongst it or not. Not long ago, St. Lawrence decided that hockey's Division I standing was an important part of the University's history, and that to remain a competitive Division I program, it was necessary to provide scholarships.
"If this legislation passes, three ECAC schools will lose more than just scholarships. They will lose the ability to compete at a national level, and most importantly, they will lose tradition. St. Lawrence, Clarkson and RPI are three vital pieces of what the ECAC has become. If they are weakened, the league is weakened.
"If it ain't broke, PLEASE don't fix it."
************************************************** **
I don't know Ryan Luley but sure commend him for his letter. It should be used as a model in our fight to defeat this proposal.

....hey Ms.Jackson extorts D1 pay...so upgrade your athletic teams to D1 and scholarship money....soccer and footbal players want to get paid too just like your hockey players...and football results are better. It's ridiculous to pay a 2,000-student college prez more than any D1 football coach!!! I hope she is fulfilling her fiduciary responsibility to public shareholders of all the boards she serves on....and I hope she is conflicted out of serving on compensation committees as she is gouging RPI. kash

And what kind of ***-backwards logic dictates that DI coaches should be making more than the president of their institute? I happen to believe she deserves every penny that she makes... RPI has made great strides during her tenure.

...John Reed wants her on the board of NYSE....geez....she heard the perks are really good. If she can pull nearly $1million a year out of RPI....just think what she can pull out all those specialist firms.....hope she's not on the compensation committee. Her pay package is probably bigger than the athletic budget at Middlebury and is certainly higher than 90% of real D3 colleges. kash

Gee, kash, you're pretty brave, hiding behind your anonymity. Why don't you share with us how much YOU make in a year, and then we can all judge YOU based on how much you make, and based on what we know about you through the internet.
You need some chapstick? Your lips must be sore after all that McCardell ***-kissing.

...hey she is worth nearly $1million per year at RPI...and has spare time to protect the interest of public shareholders in 3-4 public companies...and she is part of the clean up of the over-compensation scandal at the NYSE. If RPI can afford Jackson and 18 hockey players...RPI can afford to get its mercenary "ways"
out of D3. Just go D1 and spread the money around.....I hope Ms. Jackson wants the women hockey players at RPI as well paid as their male counterparts...just as she expects to be as well or better paid than the presidents of MIT, Caltech, C-Mellon, Hopkins etc. kash
