If you can be bothered to take the time to search, a guy who calls himself 'The Prof' (also contributes on USCHO occasionally) ran a thread on the following forum, dealing exclusively with Canadian university women's hockey and what Canadian players should know about the subject. Very useful. But you have to search for it among the usual 'yah boo sucks' posts which are much more prevalent than those on this forum:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/283026/

...or, if you're just interested in Canadian university leagues and teams, this page on the Canadian university sport website includes links to all of them:

http://www.universitysport.ca/e/w_icehockey/index.cfm

Thanks for the plug Librarian. If you do go to the Ontario Hockey site you are looking for a thread called College Bound (Redux). You are right about the level of the general posts but hey it is a public forum. Generally the idea of the thread was to introduce people to what one has to do if looking to get a scholarship in the States. The mis-conceptions up here in the Great White North in regards to this topic are unbelievable.

During the course of events people asked about Canadian schools and the process involved there so I started another thread with its focus being Canadian schools but I must admit I've forgotten the title of the thread. A senior's moment I believe.

If you have an interest in this topic feel free to ask away and I will try my best to answer your question.

As always....

The Prof

Overtime dominated by the Engineers and they come up with the winner with a couple minutes left. Mcdonald, I believe. As I had expected, though, Plattsburgh was a handful for RPI.

Sounds like the Engineers are in tough tonight against a hot goaltender (Denise McCulloch of Williams). Score is 0-0 late in the second period.

Arg. I knew there was something I forgot about tonight... Thanks for the reminder, hab.

3rd Period about to start, score still tied 0-0.

Final score RPI 2, Williams 0. Shots on goal were 38-15 in favor of RPI. Only one weekend of hockey left for the Engineers as they face Connie Craig and the Quinnipiac Bobcats in what should be a good couple of games.

Congratulations to Rosina Schiff on becoming the new all-time winningest goalie for RPI women's hockey! :D

I would question the shots on goal count only because a review of Sunday's Plattsburgh - RPI video tapes showed SOG even at 20 for each team, yet it was reported as RPI 29 - Plattsburgh 17. Who is counting SOGs at RPI?

Actually, if you had listened to the game you probably would have expected the shots to have been even more one-side. Williams defence must have blocked a lot of shots.

It seemed alot more than it was, almost every shot, save for the two goals, came from the faceoff circles or beyone.

Any thoughts or predictions on how the girls are going to fair this weekend against Q??

Jayson Moy mentioned in the postgame wrapup today (Sunday) that RPI had beaten Minnesota for a recruit. I don't think that he was referring to either of the two whom we know about already.

I thought he said that we beat Dartmouth for one recruit and lost one to Minnesota. I suspect that they have now finalized some recruits that we haven't yet heard about. At least I hope so. :)

You're correct. My error.

The program is advancing even more rapidly than I thought if we're already competing with Minnesota and Dartmouth for talent. Of course, this may be a situation where these two individuals were deciding whether they would rather be a role-player with a very good team or a very good player on a team just starting out.

A note this morning on the recruits thread says RPI has a recruit named Whitney Naslund from Bloomington Jefferson High School in Minnesota (44-20-64, but I have no idea what level of competition). I will see if I can get more information, but at least I like the last name :D .

Here are her stats

I think you will be very happy with Naslund, she is a hard worker and natural scorer.

I Googled for Whitney Naslund, and then my computer locked up. I am too lazy to do it again.

A summary. She also runs cross country. A thread on a Minnesota hockey board from last fall named her on a rather long lists as a candidate for Minnesota's Ms. Hockey. Another thread said that she was a good player playing on a poor team. That is shown by the fact that she got 64 points on her team's 102 goals (from the link in the previous post).

Edit: make that 64 out of 103. That link only included games where she had at least one point. http://startribune.sportshuddle.com/FanPages/Sports/IceHockey/Common/SeasonStats_Team.asp?TeamID={C5985682-A324-4FFE-8B0C-51086D1636B1}&setTeamType=17&setAffiliate=MST&setSeason={7796A464-E2C5-4878-A04D-72411B418E11} shows the team had 103 goals.

#20 on the individual scoring stats summary.

This kid may be a real find. I found it interesting that she was the only player in the top 30 scorers on that list that didn't have a single teammate in the top 100. It's also pretty impressive that she scored a goal in every one of her team's games except the last. I don't know if she can be a playmaker (hard to tell if she didn't have teammates to set up), but there is no doubt that she has a nose for the net....apparently in many cases having to make it happen on her own.

I agree with the comments of xk1 here. Playing on a metro team as well, you can be assured she faced a number of good teams and therefore her stats aren't to be completely disregarded as having been inflated by facing weak competition...in case anyone may have wondered about, or thought that. Many people I know who follow HS hockey closely have told me very good things about Whitney...she's one player I've never had the pleasure of watching myself.
