I listened to the game. ... I thought that Wayne State's play-by-play announcer was poor. IMO, it wasn't so much that he was a homer, but that he didn't bother doing any homework prior to the game. He did not even learn the names of RPI's players, only mentioning them when there were penalties or when RPI scored their goal. .
Funny, I listened to both Union games as they lost to RPI and I was thinking the exact same thing about the RPI ply-by-play. They really knew their own but rarely mentioned the Union girls. RPI fans probably didn't notice the same way Waybe fans wouldn't even notice any RPI reference errors in yesterdays game - but it was REAL obvious... again, they weren't homers but didn't know their "stuff".
I didn't catch the whole game yesterday but the transimssion was clear and I thought both announcers did real well... of course I don't know either team that well so I couldn't find error as you did.
Good luck to both again today!

He did not even learn the names of RPI's players, only mentioning them when there were penalties or when RPI scored their goal. He did know that RPI's goalie was named Schiff, but called her Rosetta early in the game and Rosanna later on. The color person, a recent WSU graduate, wasn't bad except she seemed to giggle now and then. It makes one realize the professionalism shown by all of RPI's announcers.
Oh no!!! I got blasted last year for posting almost the same exact thing when I was listening to the Harvard vs. Mercyhurst NCAA game last year. The Harvard homer was horrible. He was putting down the fans from Mercyhurst who traveled to the game saying they were rude for booing Harvard players. Excuse me, were they supposed to cheer. Also, if I remember right they didnt know who was in goal for the Lakers.
You are going to get the argument that they were lucky just to have someone announcing the game and they are just kids. I say "CRAP"!!! If you are going to do it, do it right!!! I'm with you Ralph Baer.

MICZamboni,
I don't think that WSU's play-by-play man is that young, although I could be wrong. Also, he wasn't a homer to the extent that I would have complained about it. Others (e.g., Harvard as you said) are worse in that regard. He did compliment RPI of occasion when they made a good play. My complaint was that he did not mention the RPI players by name during the game. Before someone picks up on this, I know that I rarely mention opponents' names on game threads here on USCHO. I don't think that the situations are comparable.
zam.88,
I think that WRPI did only one of the women's games vs Union this year although perhaps my memory is failing me. Yes, indeed the WSU transmission was clear, and I'll add the WSU announcer has an excellent speaking voice. Announcers are always making mistakes and some are excusable. My complaint is plain and simple that the announcer did not do his homework. Since it looks like it will rain here in DC (despite being in the mid-60's ), I will listen again today.

Here's hoping the Lady Engineers play more like they did in the 2nd half of the third period! Get the goals early on instead of waiting for the last 10 minutes of the game.

Sorry friend, as I said in an earlier post, RPI just ran into the wrong team this weekend,.....WSU is playing well enough to beat many elite teams, and IMO, if they played again today and tomorrow the results would be similiar,.....the Engineers will be ready for ECAC league play next season, I'm sure, but they will find the road to "W"s much more difficult when the games count for their opponents in the standings,.....

Today's game is being broadcast by the Clarkson radio folks. I just managed to get connected (http://hockey.clarkson.edu), and it's the first intermission, with the score tied 1-1.
RPI was badly outplayed in the first period. Not sure why, but two of their top offensive players, Mcdonald and Stewart, are not in the game. Flu bug perhaps?

I note that McDonald, Stewart, and Donowick, three of the top four goal scorers, are out today vs. UVM. RPI leads 3-2 early in the third period.

Final: UVM 4 RPI 3. Vermont came back from down 3-1. The lack of depth due to whatever caused McDoanld, Stewart, and Donowick to miss this weekend's games obviously hurt the team.
Disappointing weekend for the Engineers, but perhaps not surprising given the number of forwards out of action. At full strength I would have still expected a loss to Clarkson, but certainly a win over Vermont. Hope they can get the missing players back for the last few games of the season.

It's almost an unavoidable truth that a first year D-I team is going to be lacking in depth. Taking away 40% of the club's goal scoring is just too big a hurdle to overcome. However, the players gaining experience up and down the roster will be all the better for it when RPI enters the ECAC next season.
I'm going to at least one, if not both, of the Sacred Heart games next weekend. It should be fun. Hopefully the missing players will be back on the ice in Milford.

Tough loss to UVM yesterday. I wasn't at the UVM/RPI game, however, I was in attendance for the Clarkson game. McDonald and Stewart missing on their respective line and Donowick missing from her line - made a HUGE difference. The team seemed to hold their own for the first half of each game, but just ran out of energy for the second half. Donowick is also a key penalty kill player because of her speed and backchecking capabilities - I'm sure it didn't help not having her out there to kill off penalities. :(
I made the trek up to Burlington yesterday...beautiful area, nice campus, Gutterson is a solid venue. Anyway, I was sitting near McDonald, Stewart and Donowick in the stands and there wasn't anything obviously wrong with them in terms of injury but that doesn't mean much. So I don't know what the deal was but their absence hurt the team badly. All three are excellent skaters and it showed on the ice as Vermont was the better skating team overall. It's tough to juggle lines like that and expect a good game. Pretty much the 2nd line of Daniel, Welte and Jacquard-Sowa became the first line with the second and third lines being a mish mash of players. Laura Menken was moved from defense to forward for the game and worked hard the whole game. But it was obvious that McDonald and Stewart would have been the best forwards on the ice if they had played. Add Donowick in there and RPI most likely wins the game, or, at the very least, would have been the better team.

So, the three missing players made the trip. That seems to indicate that it isn't illness. Perhaps they were sitting out for disciplinary reasons. Hopefully, it isn't academic trouble, although if that were the case, they would have been out the previous week also.
The above is all speculation.

Well, I know that Donowick has been receiving treatments for an injury to her wrist that happened way back during the 2nd Colgate game (apparently she took a slapshot to her wrist). But other than that - who knows??

Assuming you are as in the know as you have implied, I have just one question: will they be back this weekend? As to the details, I'll trust that the coach and players are dealing with the situation appropriately and leave it at that.

From the Poly http://www.poly.rpi.edu/article_view.php3?view=4563&part=1 “They made a mistake, they had broken team rules, sitting out the weekend was their punishment,” was all Head Coach Burke had to say of freshmen Emily Donowick, Nicole McDonald, and Jamie-Lynn Stewart.
