The word on Schiff is that she should be ready to go by next weekend.
What happened to Schiff?
What happened to Schiff?
I'm not sure of the nature of the injury, but she was hurt in the first game against Colgate last weekend but was able to play both games with the injury. It was decided she should rest this weekend and didn't make the trip to Pittsburgh. Alllison Malcolm is out with a knee injury and I understand that she is less likely to be back in the line-up next weekend.

Now that the Engineers are 5-0-1  the next test is an exhibition against McGill before hosting the Terriers for two at the Field House.
McGill beat Dartmouth this past weekend, so I guess anything's possible. In the long run I guess it doesn't matter too much but a decent showing against McGill is preferable. :)
Seriously Red Cloud, who would have thought they'd be undefeated. Granted four of those games were against Sacred Heart and a new team in Robert Morris but still. This next stretch of 5 games is awfully interesting as we get a real mixed bag of opponents. We'll see McGill, new D1 team BU, and two good D3 teams. I have to tell you, this schedule that Coach Burke put together looks more and more brilliant. It allows the team to get their feet wet in D1 while still being competitive. Another strong recruiting class and this team should fit in pretty well in the ECAC.

The RPI team did not play Sacred Heart 4 times (they will). Let's not forget that they had a pretty good showing against a somewhat seasoned Colgate Team and although the Robert Morris team is new, they are not losing games by alot of goals. RMU looked pretty fast this past weekend against the RPI team. RPI seemed to "wake up" after the first period in both the Friday and Saturday games and came on strong in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Emily Donowick's 3 goals during the weekend also helped. Congratulations to the RPI team for staying "undefeated" and also to RMU for playing two great games.
sister - Read another way, I meant that RPI has played Sacred Heart twice and RMU twice.

Sorry Leeb - I did misread that!! I think this RPI team will only get better and keep gelling as the season goes on (as with all the other teams). There seems to be more freshmen on this team than some of the other teams. That's why it is so surprising to me that they are doing this well so early in the season (even if 4 of their games were against less seasoned teams)

Article by Ken Schott in the Gazette (link on INCH's newstand) partly about the RPI women's team: http://www.dailygazette.net/Default/Scripting/ArticleWin.asp?From=Archive&Source=Page&Skin=Schenectady&BaseHref=SCH/2005/10/26&EntityId=Ar02500&ViewMode=HTML
Anyone able to provide updates during today's RPI / McGill game? Looks like it isn't being carried by WRPI. This looks like RPI's toughest test so far this season. McGill is currently ranked #3 in Canada, with 7 games under their belt against solid opposition. They are 4-0 (regular season and exhibition) against Canadian colleges, and last weekend they put up some solid results against NCAA teams: lost 4-1 to St. Lawrence, beat Dartmouth 3-2, then lost 1-0 to Yale. Anyone know whether Schiff, Stewart and Malcolm will be back in the line-up?

That's too bad. I was really hoping that this big test would be on the air. mr_itty has provided updates from the game via the wireless connection that can be found there in the past, maybe he can give us updates.
I guess being so close to the men's start, the station didn't want to eat up airtime for regular programming. Oh well. I hope the school has been hyping a hockey doubleheader of sorts for this afternoon! A good turnout at the women's game would be awesome!

There was also a football game that started at noon.
Another somewhat surprising and encouraging victory for the Engineers, 2-1 over a tough McGill team. Didn't see the game, but the stats are now posted on collegehockeystats. Shots were close (30-25 for RPI); Ashley Mayr was in net, and the goals were by Thompson and McDonald. This team continues to surprise, and to find a way to win the close ones.

Sorry, I was in Worcester for the WPI/RPI football game (my brother is a current WPI student, and I made him sit in the visitors' bleachers with me...)
Whenever I'm able to be at the field house, I'll be sure to give whatever updates I can.

The Engineers get back to competitive hockey on Friday when they take on fellow D-I newcomers Boston University.
BU knocked off established D-I team NU last week, and took 3 points from Vermont. They're in first place in Hockey East right now, though every other team has games in hand over them and they are not first in winning percentage. Still, I think BU should present another definitive challenge much like Colgate did. If the Engineers can take 3+ points at home this upcoming weekend, they're going to turn some heads.
I'm happy to be able to see the women play this year in January, but unfortunately it's at home against Union, which I doubt will be all that much of a contest given the results that Union has shown so far this season.
The matchup between RPI and BU would seem to be a pretty even one. BU seems to be the more offensive team, with apparently no inability to score goals. RPI seems to be the more defensive team, with solid to spectacular goaltending, good team defense and an ability to grind out wins. Should be a good couple of games. I wouldn't be surprised to see a sweep either way or a split.
Anyone know the status of our players who have been dealing with knee injuries: Schiff, Malcolm, and Barbera? Initially I had the impression that Schiff's injury was thought to be minor and that she would be back in action soon, but then more recently I heard that her return was more uncertain and would depend on some test results? Anyone got any recent news on whether she will play this weekend?

For those interested, I will be going to the game tonight, and will post scoring updates from the Field House as long as my battery holds out. WRPI will, of course, be covering the Men's games this weekend.

Julie is doing a co-op during this fall semester. I don't remember if she's coming back to the team in the spring, or sitting out the full season...

Julie is actually on co-op for both semesters this year. It's actually two separate co-ops, not just one year long co-op, but I have heard she has been skating a bit and plans to be ready to go next season.
As for injuries: I believe Schiff had tests done yesterday or the day before on the leg, but have not heard the results. Would not count on her playing until she is near 100% though because she will have to have full range of motion for her butterfly style. Malcolm is still out with a knee injury. Barbera, I believe, is also still out with a knee injury.
The game should be a good one...if RPI can stay solid on team D and force BU to play their style of game rather than trying to play BU's very open, offensive style then I see two more W's. Discipline will be a key to this weekend I believe.
Itty - that would be great if you could post updates! Those of us that can't make it to games definitely appreciate updates on the board when WRPI isn't broadcasting (and when it is!). THANKS! Also, if you start to run out of battery life, there are plugs down behind the curtain in back of the pep band stand...if you can get to them it might help you to plug in between periods :D
EDIT: I have been updated and Schiff and Barbera are both cleared and expected to play. :D
