I found more on the various recruits play at soccer, field hockey, softball, and lacrosse than at ice hockey.

Emily Ford will be playing in the Chowder Cup on July 22-24: http://www.proamhockey.com/Womens%20Chowder%20Cup/2005/rosters/Foxboro%20Ice%20Foxe.htm. If any other RPI recruits are on any rosters, I missed them.

According to http://www.proamhockey.com/Womens%20Chowder%20Cup/2005/Womens%202005%20leaders.htm Emily Ford had a 1.40 GAA average. However, if the column headings are correc,t it should be 4.20.

Comment from the Chowder Cup thread about Emily Ford:
The Foxboro team had was a little weak on defense. Strassman, Mederios and Porter did a good job, but team only had two and half good lines. Ford was impressive, has great style and is always in position.
All in all some great teams, a chance for all of us to see a few of the Canadian teams, who play a very physical game.

Sounds like we have a solid class coming in to bolster some of the best D-III players in the country. Hopefully the transition to D-I won't be outrageously painful - I'd say the goal should be to be hitting the middle of the ECACHL table by around 2011 - we'll have a full slate of D-I players in 2008.
PS: Is Quinnipiac not joining the women's ECACHL too? I had thought they were.

Rensselear Polytechnic Institute has the pleasure of having an exceptional three-sport athlete from Nichols attend their women’s hockey program this fall. However, when speaking of Emily Donowick, the word “academic” will prominently be portrayed to make sure there is no misunderstanding to the title of “academic athlete.”
(This may be the beginning of an article which isn't posted on the web.)
RPIRED -
I agree, the returning players and the incoming freshmen should allow RPI to be competitive with the top D3 and lower D1 teams that are on the schedule. I can see some possible lopsided games against the likes of Colgate, Maine and Clarkson but overall the girls won't embarrass themselves.
Give Coach Burke another few years of recruiting at the D1 level and RPI should be competitive at least with the mid-level teams in the ECAC.
In terms of how this inaugural D1 class looks, I have no idea. I'm just not very familiar with the different women's leagues and playing levels. All I know is that McDonald, Jacquard-Sowa and Mayr have played in the top women's leagues in the world so that can't be a bad thing!!

Okay, so some of us took a few weeks off in the summer. Glad to see Ralph step up and play the role he so ably performs on the men's thread, of keeping thread from sinking out of sight.:D But it is now less than two months (67 days, to be precise) until RPI's first ever game as a D1 team, so time to turn our thoughts back to hockey. I agree that the recruiting class looks promising. It will always be tough to sign the top prospects to a new D1 team when they have the chance to play with a contender, but it looks like some added talent for sure and we should see a competitive team. Good to see some depth in goalies, because if just one of them steps up and has a strong season that alone could keep things interesting against some of the stronger teams. I'll wait awhile before I make a prediction on number of wins but it is going to be a tough call: very few games on the schedule that will be either slam dunks or out of reach. Should be an entertaining season.

I think its great that RPI is not rushing the transition process, but slowly merging itself into the D1 system...its no fun for either team when there is a huge disparity...
Good luck to the Engineers!

It's getting had to keep this thread on the front page. :D. I assume that this is about the same Melanie Guillemette who is an RPI recruit since she is from North Bay: http://www.ontla.on.ca/hansard/house_debates/37_parl/session4/L022A.htm#P90_8141
MÉLANIE GUILLEMETTE
Mr AL McDonald (Ni****ing): I would like to speak today about a young woman in my riding who evokes the true meaning of community spirit. Mélanie Guilemette, who attends Algonquin in North Bay, will be traveling to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago this coming June 19 as part of a group from across this province who will be distributing wheelchairs to people in need on the islands.
Mélanie's journey began four years ago when she and her youth group called Jeunesse-Interact decided to volunteer their free time to do some meaningful community services for those in need. After their teacher and mentor retired, and with no one ready to continue to guide them, these young adults rallied on as a group with their own determination, inspiration and will for helping others within the community.
One of their ongoing missions was to collect enough bottle tabs so they could purchase a wheelchair for someone in need within the community. Eventually, the North Bay Rotary Club took these young adults under their wing and has been kindly guiding and promoting them through the Rotary Club.
Mélanie heard about a World Community Service project that would involve delivering 280 wheelchairs to needy people in and around Trinidad and Tobago. She became very interested and enthusiastic about becoming a participant in this project, so much so that her mother, Joanne, became just as excited and will be joining Mélanie and others from around Ontario in order to personally distribute these much-needed wheelchairs. I would like to salute Mélanie's efforts and determination and wish her continued success in all her endeavours.
Edit: USCHO decided that I used a bad word for the name of a town. This is as ridiculous as an old BCHL board which changed "assist" to "***ist" and "pass" to "p***".

Press release:
TIM HORST NAMED WOMEN'S HOCKEY ASSISTANT
Former New Hampshire standout joins Engineers' staff
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) director of athletics Ken Ralph has announced the hiring of Tim Horst as a women's ice hockey assistant coach. A former standout at the University of New Hampshire, Horst is the second full-time women's ice hockey assistant as the Engineers prepare to elevate its program to Division I beginning in the fall.
"We are excited to add Tim to the staff," third-year head coach John Burke said. "He brings terrific knowledge and experience of the game. In addition, he has a real passion for game of hockey."
A native of St. Paul, Minn., Horst has experience as a coach, having served last year at Albany Academy for Boys. He has also been a counselor at numerous camps, including the Dick Umile Hockey Camp in Durham, N.H., and the Player Development Hockey Program in Woodbury, Minn.
Horst played for four years as a defenseman at New Hampshire (2000-01 to 2003-04), where he helped the team to two Hockey East championships, two Hockey East Tournament titles and four NCAA Tournaments, including two frozen Fours and a national championship game appearance. In 114 games he recorded 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points with 162 penalty minutes.
Prior to attending UNH, Horst skated for the Cedar Rapid Roughriders in 1999-2000 of the United States Hockey League (USHL). That season, he ranked sixth in the league in points by a defenseman and was the team's most valuable player. A graduate of South St. Paul High School, he was All-Conference, All-Metro and All-State in high school, finishing in the top ten in voting for Minnesota's prestigious Mr. Hockey Award, awarded to the top high school player in the state.
A volunteer for numerous not-for-profit organizations, Horst earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication with a minor in business administration from New Hampshire in 2004.
Horst joins Burke and fellow assistant coach Sarah Youlen on the Engineers' staff. Together they will lead Rensselaer to Division I, beginning with the season opener on Saturday, October 8, against Sacred Heart at 7pm at the Houston Field House. Rensselaer, which set the school record for wins in a season last year (21-6-0), will play 29 games as an independent this season.
Horst sounds like a strong addition and another positive indication that RPI has serious intentions with its D1 womens program. With Burke, Youlen and Horst as full-timers with solid hockey backgrounds it should allow an ongoing commitment to the very time consuming task of recruitment without taking away from focus on coaching.

Bridget LaNoir was a parttime AC last year as she was also the Head Coach of the Field Hockey team. I imagine that she will still be involved with the team. Does anyone know that status of Rob Dills, last year's other AC?

Still tied to the team, but not really in an official capacity.

I doesn't surprise me that Johnston isn't on the team, considering Burke recruited two freshmen goalies.
Also, any word on who the captain(s) are this year?
