I found out by being at the game. The team was announced during the awards ceremony immediately following the championship game. I'm sorry, I didn't catch the specific players' names....

Those were the stars of the playoffs tournament. I would think this would be clear to you, seeing as Nicole Elliot got a star...and well...she's not.

RPI press release:

SCHIFF NAMED ECAC EAST GOALIE OF THE YEAR
Aho on First Team, too; Five others also garner year-end awards

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its year-end awards for the ECAC East women's hockey league and a league-best seven Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were honored.

Named to the All-League First Team were goaltender Rosina Schiff and forward Julie Aho with Schiff also being named the ECAC East Goaltender of the Year. Forward Julie Welte earned All-League Second Team honors and Sarah Daniel, a forward, and Allison Malcolm, a defenseman, were Honorable Mentions. Named to the All-Rookie Team were forward Brooke Thompson and defenseman Kelly Barbera.

A junior from St. Louis, Mo., Schiff played in 19 games, all starts, posting a 13-6-0 record with a 1.63 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. She had five shutouts to help RPI rank fourth in the nation in scoring defense (1.22). This is the second straight season Schiff has earned First Team honors. She was also a member of the All-Rookie Team as a freshman.

Aho, a sophomore from Ann Arbor, Mich., led Rensselaer in goals with 22 and points with 35. Four of her goals came on the power play and three were shorthanded. She also had 13 assists while playing in all 27 games. Aho, who is second in the ECAC East in goals and third in points, was a Second Team selection as a freshman.

Welte earned Second Team honors after tallying 26 points, including 18 goals and eight assists, in 27 games. The junior forward had four power play goals and a shorthanded marker. A native of Pueblo, Colo., Welte was an Honorable Mention honoree last year and the league's Rookie of the Year and a member of the All-Rookie Team as a freshman.

Chosen as Honorable Mentions this season were Daniel, a sophomore, and Malcolm, a junior. A native of Calgary, Alb., Daniel was second on the Engineers in goals (16) and points (31) and third in assists (15) while playing all 27 games. Malcolm, who is from Lyme, N.H., tallied two goals and seven assists in 27 games on the blueline.

Thompson, a freshman who hails from Rochester, N.Y., had 11 goals and a team-high 16 assists for 27 points in 27 games to earn All-Rookie Team honors. Barbera, a freshman, had three goals and 15 assists for 18 points. The Nesconset, N.Y., native also played all 27 games this season.

Rensselaer, which is coached by John Burke, set the school record for wins in a season, finishing 21-6-0. The Engineers, who advanced to the ECAC East Tournament Championship Game for the third straight year, played their final season at the Division III level. They will be a Division I independent next year.

This thread got buried again. Has anyone heard any additional info about the schedule and about recruits?

I just went looking for this thread, Ralph. I guess great minds really do think alike.

I was surprised that there is no recruit information available on the quickly growing Division I recruit thread. Perhaps the D-I establishment isn't aware or has forgotten that RPI is playing in Division I next season? I can't believe there would be zero information about recruits.

Yeah but RPI has really never released recruit information early. The past few years we didn't know what the freshman classes looked like until very late. I have a feeling we have some players signed up already. I did hear on the D1 recruit thread that Coach Burke and his staff were heavy on the recruiting trail and that a couple of Ontario girls were interested. We shall see.

That's true, but I am surprised that nothing specific has leaked out on the Women's D-I recruit thread.

The last that I had heard, from a good but by no means official source (about three-four weeks ago?) was they had three firm commitments at that time, all from Canada. Watching the final four this year (three of whom were from ECAC) certainly drives home the enormous challenge in front of RPI over the next couple years (and for that matter, Union, Cornell, Quinnipiac) to close the talent gap.

Hab - Interesting. RPI is graduating 7 Seniors this year so we need at least 3 or 4 more players to sign on to make up the difference. Of course, you heard that awhile ago so maybe some more players have signed on. I would think it more likely that Coach Burke is looking to sign a class of between 8 and 10 but I could be wrong. What do you all think will happen to the returning players? Will all of them return? I'm also forgetting how many scholarships are available next year. I want to say 3 or 4?

Leeb,
I would agree that RPI will end up with 8 to 10 new players. I wouldn't expect more than a couple of the current players to leave or be cut. Since there will eventually be 18 scholarships, there should be 4.5 per year. I would expect that they will start with somewhat more than that, but at most 6. It is also possible that some of the current players will be given scholarships.

This is all guesswork on my part. I have no knowledge.

Yes, but I excelled in "thoroughness" at RPI. :D

[Since this won't make sense to most who are not from RPI, I should add that RPI's motto is "Knowledge and Thoroughness".]

I've been following this thread - and since I really've enjoyed it, I've decided that next season (actually starting now) I'm also going to be a rabid RPI fan. So, first things first, I'll have to go to the web page and find out where the school's located!!! I'll count on you "real" fans to keep me posted on the players, coaches, and all things women's hockey.

GO RPI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally some news about recruits. From that tourney: 5-0-3-3-4 http://www.hockeycanada.ca/e/championships/u18/2005/stats/leadscore_all.html

her page from the Ottawa Raiders: http://www.ottawaraiders.ca/roster/macdonald.php

Edit: Interesting that there are a lot of college graduates playing on the Ottawa Raiders including those from several ECAC schools.

Seems like Nicole is a good pick-up for RPI. She put up 3-3-6 in 26 games in a league where she's playing with and against players who are in their early to late 20's, many of which were solid players in D1. Has anyone out there seen this girl play?
