at the end of the first, no score. The difference between this game and last week's is night and day.

P.S. If any of the WRPI people are reading - turn your mic's off. We can hear you over the intermission RPI sports updates....

A checking call against Williams gave 5 on 3 for RPI for 1:32. RPI scored (Mcnamara from Aho & Thompson) just as the 1st penalty expired. 1-0 RPI.

End of the 2nd, RPI up 2-0. RPI looked considerably better this period.

3rd period about to start. There's a penalty on the board against RPI's Thompson. Must have come at the last second of the 2nd period, but I missed the call. Williams will start the 3rd with a PowerPlay for two minutes.

Game Over. RPI wins 2-0. This game was a far better test of the Engineers' abilities.

Pretty solid effort by RPI. Williams is by far the best team RPI has faced so far (outside of Union). Thoughts :

- Decent defensive game by RPI. There were a few breakdowns, some running around in the defensive zone and some D caught flat-footed but overall RPI did a good job of clogging up the neutral zone and playing positional hockey.

- Both teams had about the same number of Grade A scoring chances. RPI converted, Williams didn't.

- Rosina was solid again, spectacular at times.

- Sarah Daniel has game.

- Aho has more game.

- Ellen McNamara is the best D I've ever seen for RPI. She knows exactly when to push the puck along the boards and when to skate it out. Of course it helps that she has terrific puck-handling ability. She also isn't shy about jumping in offensively. She scored RPI's first power play goal.

Anybody making it out to Rochester this weekend? If anyone is, make sure to give us an account of the games. What can we expect from RIT this year? They lost a big player in Jen Gorczynski but it looks like they have a decent freshman class. Plus they still have Alysia Park. In terms of results, they have a bad tie against Buffalo St., two wins against Holy Cross (one in which they were outshot), and were dominated by Plattsburgh.

I'm thinking anything less than a sweep for RPI is disappointing. I can't see RIT being any better than Williams. RIT is always tough though, especially in their own barn, and RPI will have to work hard.

I think your analysis is pretty good. I looked at RIT as being in positions 3 to 5 in the conference. It appears S. Maine is weaker than anticipated and RIT's showing against Buff St and HC is not impressive. I would have expected at least 2 to 3 goal margins in those games. If these games are close, then RPI may not have moved up significantly from last year. If RPI wins by similar margins as Plattsburgh did over RIT, then RPI may have made some strides to get into elite consideration.

Unfortunately, no. http://www.wrpi.org/sports/w_sched.html has the schedule. WRPI's next broadcast of a women's game is (tentatively) scheduled for 1/15. A quick look at RIT's schedule (http://www.modernmusicandmore.com/broadcast.html) shows that they won't be broadcasting it either.

This weekend will be a big test for RIT vs RPI, but lets not be mislead by there 4 games so far. In the Buffalo game, look at the shots on goal Buffalo was totaly outplayed there goalie kept them in the game. Against Holy Cross in the first game RIT played most of the game with someone in the penalty box and still won 2-1 (Holy Cross had 3, 2 man advantages and scored there goal on a 6 on 3 advantage), the next day RIT was in control and won 5-0. Against Plattsburgh, RIT was out classed but Plattsburgh scored 3 powerplay goals and 3 goals off giveaways. Lets face it if you are in the box to much against Plattsburgh you will lose.

I think this weekend will be a true test for both of these teams and we will get a good idea of where they both stand.

Good points hockeysb11. Every team has games which they thoroughly dominate but just can't score. But Buff. State is still really bad and scoring only one goal against them does not bode well for RIT's offense. They came back to sweep Holy Cross but HC just isn't good. In fact, HC has already lost to a brand new team in St. Anselm, a ridiculously bad D1 team in Sacred Heart and Wesleyan (a bad NESCAC team).

The other thing that doesn't bode well for RIT is how much they have been penalized so far. Looking at RIT's box scores (except the exhibition game against Waterloo), I see they have been penalized 46 times in 4 games!! Comparatively, RPI has been penalized 46 times in 9 games. RIT needs to stay disciplined because RPI's power play is very good.

I'm not saying RPI will win but it certainly looks like RIT has lost a little something and RPI has gained a little something. That's why they play the games though!! Hopefully both teams play good, clean hockey both games.

Do not look past St. Anselm's or sell them short because they are a brand new team. They got some transfers from other programs, one of USM's better players last year and a couple who bailed out of Sacred Heart. In fact, I think RPI only beat them 4-2.
