Where is Joe from? Is his family close by? Because if I ever get hurt the first people I'd want by my side are my folks.
He's from Cranston, RI, just outside Providence...

My family and I just found out about this incident this morning on the news. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to you, Joe!
*Just wanted to add to my previous comments*
Joe, be strong. As a Hockey East fan, I have seen you play, and I know how tough of a competitor you can be. Keep up with the Warrior spirit I know you have in you!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Joe Exter and his family. I got the opportunity to see the Warrior Captain and his team play at the RPI Holiday Tournament this year, and he is one class act. He was the MVP of the tournament and I got a chance to talk to him as well, he's a really nice guy, and I hope he recovers very soon.

FWIW: six years ago next week, I personally had the same experience/diagnosis exactly as Joe is in now. One thing I learned from it is that it's much harder on your family and closest friends than it is on you personally, since the most critical questions simply can't be answered immediately after the accident. They're terrified; from your perspective, you just take a very extended, woozy "nap".
With any luck, within the next 48 hours or so his condition will be clearer, and a lot of the immediate fears will be put to rest.
One fortunate aspect is that there were medical personnel on hand -- unlikely his O2 levels dropped much, or for for very long. That's crucial.
Our thought and prayers are with you, Joe.
REALLY glad to hear his condition has already been upgraded (!!)
PS: sick as it may sound, bleeding from the ears is not necessarily as negative as it sounds (been there, done that -- see above). I was told to be grateful for it, as one of the immediate dangers from a skull fracture is hematoma pressure buildup within the skull itself, permanently damaging brain tissue.
My hunch is they'll keep him slightly sedated for the next day or two to minimize the chance of a seizure. With any luck, being the excellent athlete he is, he'll continue to show steady improvement, and eventually make a full recovery.

Really sad to hear of the unfortunate injury to Joe last evening.
IMHO he's a helleva goalie and IS THE HEART of the Merirmack team. While we razz him whenever Merrimack plays UNH ... I don't know of any fan up at the Whitt who wouldn't mind having had Joe suit up in a white UNH jersey. We respect him.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!
All the best to Joe and his family, friemds, Chris Serino, the Warrior team and its fans during this sad time.
It's just a game - you hate when things like this happen.
