Just a heads up that Penn State (16-0) will meet Washington & Jefferson (16-2) on Friday, Jan. 3 at 8:00pm at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh.
The Icers and Presidents face-off in the second game of the College Hockey Showcase presented by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The opening game at 5:00pm features Ohio State and Princeton in a battle of NCAA teams.
Nice of the Pens to include the ACHA. Of course, both schools have a lot of locals in their lineups, and both coaches have long associations with the Penguins.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Ask the Penguins, not me! :D
Check out the story link on the front page of this website.
And you can listen to Penn State & W&J by going to www.psuplaybook.org and clicking on the WRSC/WBLF link
Hope Santa was good to everyone
And Happy New Year
Should be called the "Imatation College Hockey Showcase"
(the REAL College Hockey Showcase takes place in November, featuring Minnesota, Michigan, MSU, and Wisconsin :) )

Eric, go back to the D 1 forum, thanks for taking the time out to lower yourself to this forum.
ooh wow. Someone who's been around since October is calling me out about which forum I should be posting in.
Thank you for your wonderful insight.
Now get lost.
If you had actually paid any attention around here, you'd notice that I follow club hockey quite a bit, and I actually do have a legitimate reason to be posting in the club hockey forum. I'm sure that if you dig around a bit, you'll probably find my connection to club hockey. Maybe if you're nice I'll even tell you myself.

Sorry, I guess I was having a bad day. I guess I was looking for a relevant comment on topic, instead of the usual "Michigan rules" or "this is how Syracuse does it" 2-cent comment. And, since it seems like you somehow equate length of time registered on the site and # of posts to the right to post, I'll go back to lurking and stay out of your way. And I loved the pompous, but hilarious, Godfather II-like "dig around" comment. Classic.
And good luck to Penn State and W&J, hope they put on a good showing and do us proud!
RedFox - no problem. I was probably a bit harsher than I needed to be with my response. Chalk it up to a bad day on both our parts, water under the bridge, now lets move past it.

Now that I'm back home, and my computer has recovered from a crash, I can report that Penn State and W&J did put on a pretty good show in front of about 5000 fans. The Icers were clearly the better team as the 7-1 final indicates, but the Presidents put up a battle until mid-way through the contest.
I also watched Princeton get beat by Ohio State in the D-1 contest. I have no doubt that Joe Battista's squad could handle the Tigers, and would give the Buckeyes a run as well.
JMHO folks ;)

There were more at the PSU-WJ game than at the earlier OSU-Princeton match.
We had Penguins President Tom Rooney on our pre-game show. The Pens are solidly behind Penn State jumping to varsity status, but it's too bad they can't be financially behind a move!

LOL... The ringing sound is your alarm clock. Time to wake up from sleepy land Steve. If you don't you'll miss the bus to school.:p You and the PSU team can get on where the drivers would be OSU or Princeton.

I know from my playing experience that being able to be competitive with the level of hockey just above your level isn't too hard, but it is hard, winning that is a different story. To try and be competitive 2 levels above your current level is next to impossible, winning well I would say that is much closer to impossible then just being competitive. You guys who think that club would stand the slightest chance even against a lower tiered D-1 team like Princeton or OSU is pure lunacy. I am sorry. Commence arguement, I wont participate because I will never convince you, but having been on the ice with top players all the way up to the AHL it just isn't going to happen.

You can have all the heart in the world but if you don't have the head and the skills for the game it just aint gonna happen.

Well, I've been around hockey for 40 years, and I know what I saw on Friday night, and what I see most every night from the Icers.
I'm not saying Penn State's current team could come in and compete with the upper echelon teams in D-1, but the talent on the team is certainly comparable to ANY mid-level D-1 team and a hell of a lot better that a lot of D-1 schools.
This team has speed, size, strength, puck skills, goaltending. In short, everything you need to win, and win consistently. In addition Joe Battista is not just a door opener - the guy can flat out coach AND recruit.
I'm no Penn State alum, and admittedly I have a connection with the team, but I know good hockey when I see it, and I stand by my convictions about how the Icers would perform at the NCAA D-1 level.
Of course, I'll never convince Sloth of that!! ;)
