Such a shame. I'm sure everyone at Michigan State sends their condolences to the Walsh family and the University of Maine.

Condolences to Coach Walsh's family. We in Omaha were privileged to have his son play here in juniors. This is a great loss to college hockey.

I can't even put into words the sadness of the last few weeks. This is a HUGE loss for college hockey and for all of us that knew Shawn. He was a true presence and will be sorely missed. I send my most heartfelt condolences to his family.

If I might be bold enough to speak for the UMaine community, we are forever blessed to have had you in our lives. Thank you Coach for a tremendous 17 years. God Speed.

A truly sad day for all of us in the Maine Hockey family and beyond. My condolences go out to Coach Walsh's family on their tremendous loss.

We lost a great man today. A great leader, a great teacher, and a great coach.

He will be sorely missed.

My condolences go out to Coach Walsh's family and the Maine hockey family (who are mostly one and the same). Words are inadequate, but they are often all we have.

I'm completely stunned. The last I heard, he was doing okay. My condolences to Shawn's family and friends.

On a personal level, everyone in my immediate family has had cancer in the past four years, and I've lost my father to it as well. My thoughts and sympathies go out to everyone in Walsh's family, both the blood and hockey families.

On a hockey level, Walsh did great things at Maine, and I hope the program continues to thrive under the parameters he set for the Black Bears.

Best wishes to all.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Shawn Walsh's family and the entire UMaine community. It just won't be the same looking behind the Maine bench and not seeing that familiar face. A truly sad day for everyone who loves college hockey.

My thoughts rae with Shawn's direct family and his extended family of Maine players and fans. UNH's rivalry with Maine may never be the same.

All of us in Bowling Green mourn the loss of one of our own. Condolences to his immediate family, and his hockey family.
We were so looking forward to seeing Coach Walsh in a few weeks. Just like this past weekend, it'll be another sporting event begun with many tears.

Just went up on USCHO a moment ago and the feature story hit me like a ton of bricks. So sad, especially when many of us thought he'd battle through and we'd see him behind the bench again this year. Condolences to his family and UMaine.

I can't picture a Maine bench without Walsh behind it. I remeber always admiring the picture of the incredible championship team (Kariya et al.) all through high school. My hockey coach had it on the wall of his classroom.

Maine @ UNH was consistantly one (often two) of the best games of the season, and Walsh was always a part of that.

He will be missed by all college hockey fans.
