look at the opponents huggon has faced vs who dreyer has faced...you cant make a comaprison of the two based on saves in their games when you look at the opponents...its not a fair comparison.

yet, even without that comparison- four goals to niagara on 20, three to quinnipiac on 13, four to osu on 17. those numbers arent so great and when the cats face off against a team that puts on 35+ shots like harvard or minnesota, do you think huggon has what it takes to produce the same amount of saves as the likes of dreyer and gunn?
IMO, if UNH's defense cant keep the top offenses to around 25 or less shots, the opposition will be scoring 5 or 6 goals and UNH wont be able to produce 7 goals like they did against niagara when they play higher ranked teams.

It depends. Some goalies perform better when they face more shots, plain and simple. It's easier for a goalie to get into the flow of the game, the more action they face, so it's really hard to say. That said, even though she's got great stats, it does seem that she has given up a few softies. I think the PK wasn't outstanding this weekend, UNH gave up a lot of goals down a skater.

some of huggons better efforts the last 2 seasons....keep in mind these were UNH teams that finished with mediocre records..and when teams put up this many shots, they were usually VERY high quality shots..not just dump ins from the outside

she had some games where she let in more goals than youd expect too...but more often than not she played well enough to give the very average team in front of her a chance to stay competitive and win.

now with a better team skating in front of her....ill take my chances.

What's the word on new recruits for next year?
Huggon is a senior; any new goaltending recruits on the horizon?

If UNH is to be a serious contender in both the league and the National picture, they had better sweep this weekend.

Vicki Davis was named Hockey East Rookie of the month for November. Hopefully she is doing okay after leaving the game Sunday...

i agree...but it is teams like connecticut that worry me- i know UNH will be pupmed to play the top ivies and the WCHA leaders and providence but they cant take a team like connecticut lightly. obviosuly, i think if the cats are on top of their game they should be able to take both matches with relative ease. however, conneticut has proven it can compete (tie with providence, beating northeastern) so the cats cant expect an easy weekend or they will end up with a unnecessary loss.

Exactly, which is why it's imprtant that they take care of business this weekend. If they can't take care of business vs. UConn they can't expect to compete with the top notch teams in the nation. What was it that started their slide last year? The loss to UConn (on the heels of a great undefeated stretch and tie at Minnesota).

Havent seen the entire poll, but UNH is up to #5 in the USA Today/AHM Poll tied with Dartmouth.

Re: question about goaltending recruits: I know that at least 2 recruits have visited UNH in the last little while. I don't know anything about their desirability or availability. I also know that Erin Whitten was in contact with some possible 'tenders when she was in Toronto for Four Nations. For Chiefsfan: Who are the 'A' list goalies available in Ontario this year? This is a great opportunity for someone next year to step in and play for an ever improving team. Which goalies are available in the U.S.? Let's speculate ...

Re: Vicki Davis' injury: - She has a concussion and is listed as day to day; doubtful that she'll play this weekend. Still has little or no memory of the incident or the remainder of the game.

The only possible goalie recruits in Ontario are:

Lauri St. Jacques--NY Jr. Aeros (committed to St. Cloud)
Erika Vanderveer--Mississauga Jr. Chiefs

Have not seen much else.

Murphy has been real tough in goal lately, don't see UNH scoring 5...........UNH 3-1.

Because nothing exists outside Toronto, right? How can you seriously say that the only possible goalie recruits in Ontario are the two you mentioned? If you ever want to check out the quality of hockey outsite the metropolis then you would be doing yourself a huge favour, as well as the people who frequent this board looking for accurate information. There are a handful of great goalies available throughout the province that I daresay equal the talent of the two you mention, or, perhaps, exceed their talent...and they are eligible recruits to boot...

I tend to agree with Stangs, there is life in Canada outside the GTA. However, we're looking for names. Give us a few examples of players you have seen that could possibily fill the bill at UNH next year. Keep in mind that college hockey is alot more intense than Midget/Int/Jr AA.

College hockey is intense, but perhaps you don't give enough credit to how good these girls are (the Jr./Int. aged girls). Now, I can only use the London Jr. Stangs as an example, but our record this year vs. Canadian and American universities is 4-2...not bad for highschool-aged girls...and that includes playing top 10 ranked D1 schools and teams ranked in the top 10 in Canada. I also know that the Jr. Cheifs have fared well against the college teams, as have other Jr. teams throughout the province...

Again, using the Jr. Stangs as an example, our two goalies, Allison Rutledge and Morgan Wielgosz, are both excellent goaltenders (don't I have to say that? ha ha...) They have been to visit several schools and you should see their names next year. Cheifsfan is right though...the two names he dropped are definitely worthy recruits, but my point was that they weren't the "only possible" recruits...

As faar as fitting the bill for UNH...on that I can't comment as I am not too familiar with the program...anyway, I didn't drop too many names but I hope that helps...

In New Brunswick in March the Canada Winter Games will showcase some(not all) female players. Scouts in the east may not otherwise have a chance to see players that have been through an extensive screening process in each province.

Goalies are found on boy's/men's teams throughout the country. I believe it is true that Kim St Pierre, maybe the best goalie in the world, was passed over 4 times by her home province of Quebec.

To translate for Americans:
Saying the talent is in the Toronto area is like saying the best hot dogs are in New York. You can find lots of players in the vicinity but talent and desire is scattered around.
