I saw a posting earlier last month about her redshirting and it was quickly removed within a few minutes. She probably did not want to spend another year of eligibilty sitting on the bench behind Huggon. She had not played at all this year. In fact UNH has not played any goalie other than Huggon this year.
From what I have heard and seen (stats), she is a very talented goalie. Its got to be hard if your the second goalie and you see zero playing time. I believe only two other D-1s (no D-3) have not allowed the back up some playing time this year.
Im sure she will pop up somewhere at another D-1 next year.

this puts UNH in a precarious position regarding their goaltending. they have lost one girl to the NWHL, huggon graduates, and its possible ensor may graduate and decide to move on instead of spending another season with the hockey team.
UNH may potentially have to find three freshman goalies for next season  you can see the problems mccloskey has inherited from coach kay...he's done terrific work to get things headed in the right direction, but this goaltending thing could be a big issue for next year
i have heard of one talented goalie they are looking at, but they arent sure if her english is good enough to attend school...who knows?

With the goaltending, it's a matter of the glass being half empty or half full.. yes, it's not going to be easy to fill Huggon's skates, but whomever comes into the position will have a marvelous opportunity to contribute immediately. It seems goaltenders in college hockey are often left 'waiting in the wings' (a la Ensor), so this is a chance for an 'A list' player to step in. I wonder if Coach McCloskey might look for a second goaltender through a transfer?

Don't forget Minnesota last year, they had only a soph walk on returning in net with extremely limited playing experiecne. UM recruited the freshman Horak and Reinen and look what they have done. Easily the top goalie tandem in the country for 2001/02.

Any thoughts on Northeastern? I think they (Northeastern) are depending on goaltending this year to hold them in games ... hopefully the momentum from our wins last weekend will continue.

I watched NU play against BC and Connecticut and they didn't look very strong in either match. Gunn was solid in net but in the third period vs. the eagles, BC was able to control the puck in the NU defensive zone for extended periods of time and ended up scoring twice in the final frame to get a tie. BC played basically the same 5 players the whole period too- their top line would come to the bench and rest for a minute and hit the ice again for two. UNH seems to have a depth of offense and a stronger overall defensive core and should be able to beat the young huskies. NU has a few weapons but against BC they never really set up offense, it was more of individual spurts by players that resulted in their goals. I expect UNH to take this one by a couple of goals. In the past few years NU has spoiled alot of wildcat hopes. UNH has an opportunity to pay them back this year. IMO this is a game they should definately win, however, winning at matthews has never been easy for the wildcats.

If NE slips one or two by UNH and Gunn plays at the top of her game, I see a 2-1 win or 2-2 tie for NE.
Kind of like Hasek when playing for the Sabers; average team in front, but give him a goal or two and they would put them away.

UNH 1-0 over NE
shots were 21-18 in favor of NE.
I thought this would be a good test for UNH..... nice to see that they could come out on top in such a close game! Will have to wait for Gibber to get home from the game to fill us in :)

after watching tonights game it looks as though goulet has found a home on defense. stefanilo did not see much ice in this game or in the second game v. princeton, anyone know what is the situation? thomas edgar and goulet were regulars along with hickox but little from stefanilo.
UNH overall didnt look as good tonight as I have seen them look in the past. Huggon made some big saves to preserve the 1-0 win.
Offensively the wildcats looked a bit shaky compared to the second princeton game, not as solid.
Any comments on the game?

Here's (without looking at all of them yet), my favorite photo of the game, Huggon stopping Brooke White's breakaway in the third period after a horrible turnover:

I'll comment more later if necessary.
No way were the shots 21-18 in favor of NU...

UNH dominated the play in the first 2 periods. the shots were fairly even after 2, but the quality certainly wasnt. seemed most of the UNH shots were right in tight on gunn, and the northeastern shots were all kept wide to the boards or were from out above the tops of the circles, except for a terrific sliding glove save by huggon with 3 seconds left in the first period.
they really jumped on northeastern early..the forecheck looked a lot like the second princeton game...they were all over the northeastern defense, which was VERY young and inexperienced (pachal and greene both played forward tonight) the unh forwards held the puck for long stretches on the cycle and even when they didnt generate good scoring chances they really wore down the defense.
the goal was scored when allison edgar picked up the puck on the half boards and fired it to the front of the net..it hit chandy kaip in the pants and dropped in front of her...she took a swipe at it and vicky davis knocked it under gunn as she was coming across the top of the crease looking for a rebound...typical UNH grind it out type of goal.
the third period was pretty much the opposite of the first two i thought. the team seemed to get in to a protect the lead mode and instead of playing their game got too caught up in dumping the puck out and just standing and watching northeastern carry it up ice. the defense made some real bad turnovers in the neutral zone, including one by kristen thomas...who was the last player back, and tried to put a move on brooke white who picked her clean and skated in uncontested from the blueline, only to be stopped by huggon (i have to say im shocked brooke white doesnt have a goal this year...she was the best player i've seen UNH play against this year...an excellent skater, who played close to 30 minutes and it seemed anytime northeastern did have the puck, it was on her stick) obviously UNH had very little puck possession in the 3rd period, and as youd expect they didnt generate much offense without having the puck.
a win on the road is big, especially against northeastern. i think mccloskey will probably be pleased with the first 2 periods, especially the 1st....but i don't think he's too thrilled with the third. they showed guts to hang on for the win, but they did more than enough to lose the game.

A great win for the girls - perhaps another psychological barrier broken. I'm not sure I like the fact that Edgar and Thomas are only getting 1 shot per game as per the scoring summary. I noticed last weekend we spend alot of time cycling the puck down low without using the D. Both these players can get the puck to the net producing great rebound opportunities .. is this change in strategy by accident or design??

According to the box score here at USCHO that's what the shots were. Hmm.
