The shots looked to be tilted towards UNH last night until SLU had 8 SOG in Overtime (There was a power play late in OT), and Huggon stood tall...
I said I would have been ecstatic with a split this weekend, so a tie and a loss (a one goal loss), especially the way they tied it with 13 seconds left last night, is great for the confidence of the team. If they had Thomas, things might have been different. Princeton at home next weekend should be a good test.

UNH appears to have a little more "grit" this year. By that I mean they will turn and at least "stare" at an opposing player who slashes or elbows. Also, it would appear that a teammate will stand up by at least "staring" at an opponent when a wildcat is (note above).
With a little more physical size (like most of those Olympic hired hands seem to have) I think UNH will be well on their way back. I have watched the womens' game for 25 years....there may not be checking but there are ways to earn physical respect.....something that appeared lacking in the UNH team in the lat few years. Welcome back.

I saw the games this weekend and would like to make the following comments: Janine Goulet gave a really all-out effort this weekend playing defence for the first time; what she lacked in knowledge she tried to compensate with heart. Every shift - all out.
UNH has three solid lines of offence. Their third line was not scored on in the first game (4 goals against) and played every shift in the offensive end - the team has depth that is not appreciated fully yet. The Cats seem to play at the level of their opponents which is both good and bad - good to see they can match the speed and skill of the better teams, bad to see that they sometimes let the lesser teams control the pace. They don't seem to have found their own speed consistently yet, but it's coming. Huggon is stellar in net - Barrie was no slouch either - so Coach Mac needs to use his much-touted scouting skills to the max.
Solid work ethic, great coaching, lots of individual talent and palpable respect for each other make this team exciting to watch. Hope it keeps up.

Any idea who UNH is bringing in for next year? It'll be interesting to see what McCloskey can do with his first class. I've heard rumors about a few good defensemen. Hopefully he can bring in a few top flight forwards, as they seem to have a good young group with Jones, McMaster, Davis and Hansen the last two classes...

Granddaddy. I also have been privy to the idea that a couple of top level "defensepersons" are on there wau to the Whit. One only hopes tha tthis is true. I suspect that with a sterling defense to back up whoever takes the place of the current goalie......and the offense that exists..... that UNh may well make another step forward.

Hopefully we'll find out this week what might be in the fold for next year. I'm not sure how all of the LOI signing are taken care of for the women, but I assume it's the same for the men, and that the early signing period ends tomorrow?

Does anyone have any knowledge whether Janine Goulet will remain back on defense for the remainder of the season...or will she move back to forward now that Kristen Thomas is back ?
Thanks

You have got to be kidding !!! No knock on Janine, but stay up front. I think the 4 primary D can handle the job.

Just asking...by the way, the team actually plays 3 pairs of defensemen (a total of 6 players...one of which is a freshman).

No internet broadcast. WMEX, 106.5 out of Rochester will have coverage of the game. Tomorrow's game will be on the Wildcat Sports Network, and as far as I know, can be heard on the internet at www.wntk.com
http://pubpages.unh.edu/~jdgibney/whockey/schedule2k2.html
that has a list of the games and the broadcasts, as far as I know them so far

Me and my gf decided not to risk the weather and stay home. I'm assuming the game is over by now (unless Princeton was late due to the weather), still no release on unhwildcats.com with the score. :(

UNH wins 2-1 in OT
gordon scored both goals on breakaways...the first early in the third period to give UNH a 1-0 lead, and the second a minute into OT while playing 4x4.
princeton scored a PPG with about 2 minutes to go in the game to tie the score at 1.
SOG princeton 26, UNH 16

just to rub salt in the wound...
maine has been shut out in 4 of 5 games, and has only 3 goals in their last 6 games (2 of the 3 against quinnipiac yesterday, the other against UNH)
even though maine is still a little sister when it comes to womens hockey, it never hurts my feelings to see them get beat up on :D
maybe BC has some competition for last place afterall :)

Just got finished reading the box over at collegehockeystats.com, surprised with the weather and all to see UNH pull their highest attendence of the season, 695. CHS also claims there was only 257 at the first Maine game, I don't recall that small of a crowd...
