Dave, I guess that the 3-2 P.C. loss to Maine today reaffirms your post.

Maine's a lot better than their record indicates. They've lost a lot of close ones. They kind of fell short of expectations last season, but their losses to graduation weren't too bad a year ago and they brought in a lot of solid 21-year old freshmen from Quebec.

Predictions

Looking at what Brown has done to date I will be disappointed if UNH did not win. UNH have played 5 more games then Brown which gives UNH more playing time to come together as a team. Brown as played Minnesota which is better then any team UNH has played so far which may help them if they were able to learn by playing a better team. Brown does not seem to score much, other then against Quinnipiac. Of course they may of scored more because they did learn something from playing against Minnesota. I think UNH will be able to put more pucks in the net and even if they don’t I think our goalies will keep Browns scoring low. If Thomas is able to skate I think UNH will win, if not they should still win. I wish there was a place to find out who was injured and out for the next game and who was day to day. It would make looking at the match ups easier.
So as to the score I will go with 3 to 1. This is not knowing who will be in Goal or who is out with injuries.

Davis is out for the season. On the recommendation of Coach Mac she is taking a red shirt year. Hopefully, she'll be back next September.

Mere hours away from the UNH - Harvard game now, any predictions? Thinking Harvard will win it by a touchdown.

I suspect it will be difficult for UNH to pull this one off. I am hopping that Bourdon will be in net. This will be a very good indicator of her abilities and if she can keep the game close then I will be happy. It will be interesting to see if the defense has those little lapses that will give Harvard the two on ones or the three on one break away.
While I was little surprised at the loss to Brown I am still pleased with how the season is going. To me the Coach is doing two things. Getting the team set to take hockey east and to have a much better team next year so that we can play with the big boys. So taking a loss here and there for the big picture is OK by me. If you don’t play your backup goalie now and then I think you are in trouble if your number 1 goalie goes out.

UNH loses 2-1, tough loss to take after keeping it tied for so long. Near goal during the 2nd, there was some comotion in front of the net and the UNH player started celebrating as if it went in, but the goal judge (the same one from the RPI incident last night) didn't hit his light. Harvard just dominated the last period and a half, the 'Cats could barely get it out of their zone.

Was glad to see Thomas was back on the ice and Bourdon was in goal. She stopped a lot of shots and kept UNH in the game. Harvard did not win by a touch down nor a field goal but a point after.
The Cats next a game against Vermont, they should win, but then they play away at Harvard then two games against Dartmouth. Both Harvard and Dartmouth will be expected to win but UNH could take a game or two. What I will be looking for in these games are does UNH get better. I suspect they will and that will put them in a good spot for all those hockey east games they have coming in the second half of the season.
So this is my long winded way of saying I was not displeased with today’s game.

Just bringing this thread back to the top... why has Coach Mac not declared his early signings yet? What is the delay? I know of at least three individuals who signed at UNH. Why is it such a big secret? Everyother school makes a big deal over these signings ...

I like the low key approach to the recruiting process, right through to early signing. Some teams- WCHA in particular- make 'press releases', which may make the parents of the players feel good, but it strikes me as a bit contrived.I think McCloskie probably likes a philosophy/culture that comes from the "we'll do our talking on the ice" approach.

Schools like the University of Minnesota announce their early signings for all sports. I think that makes sense in terms of the equitable treatment for men and women athletes that most on this board would like to see. And when it comes to signing players for sports like football and men's basketball, it is not done to "make parents of the players feel good". There is an interest in learning this news in the public served by the media. Given that the major newspapers and TV stations in the Twin Cities area report these signings for women's hockey, they must believe that some segment of their audience has an interest in this sport as well.

The Men's team has not announced their signings, but that certainly does not prevent us from knowing their names.

Some schools may feel that the admissions office should confirm all recruits. Its a old repectful idea that they are students first and at least symbolically nothing is official until a student is offered admitance.

Many state schools have rolling admissions so I would think that players that sign NLI would already be accepted into the school.
