Got a reply today from Joe Bertagna (how cool is it that the commish actually responds to emails!) about transfer rules. He said the WHE Athletic Directors are having a meeting June 19th and he believes that will be brought up.

If a player has already announced her decision to transfer from one HE school to another, and the league does not currently have a "sit out a year" rule, I would not think that such a rule enacted on June 19 would apply to her.

I heard a rumour that espn did an item on unh's women's hockey team. Anybody got any info?

I looked around ESPN's site on that day that you posted and could not find anything. I too would be interested in reading this if someone knows where to find it on ESPN's site.

I know they hand them out when they visit schools (drug prevention and what not) and during the autograph signing at the Fox Run Mall. I myself am looking for either a Kira Misikowitz or a Jen Huggon, will trade a signed Allison Edgar & a signed Chandy Kaip for either.

Laura Lankton has transferred to Bemidji. Good move for her.

Seven UNH women's skaters named to inaugural Women's Hockey East All-Academic Team
Edgar honored as 2002-03 Top Scholar-Athlete
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Led by 2003-03 Top Scholar-Athlete Allison Edgar (Brigden, Ont.), seven University of New Hampshire women's hockey players were named to the inaugural Women's Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league announced Friday. To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum grade-point-average of 3.0 in both semesters of the 2002-03 academic year.

Edgar, whose major is exercise science: pre-med, recorded a 3.93 GPA while patrolling the blue line for the Wildcats in her junior season. The defenseman was also honored as a Women's Hockey East All-Star Second Team selection this year and was the recipient of UNH's Award for Academic Excellence for the third time in as many years.

Edgar was joined on the All-Academic Team by teammates Hillary Ensor (Grapevine, Texas), Randi Hickox (Mississauga, Ont.), All-America First Team selection Jen Huggon (Plymouth, Mass.), Alexis Silvestri (Smithfield, R.I.), Nicole Stefanilo (Sanford, Maine) and Jaime VanMassenhove (Alpena, Mich.).

Hickox, Stefanilo and VanMassenhove were three of the other 20-plus Women's Hockey East student-athletes who attained higher than a 3.50 GPA for the 2002-03 season.

Four of the UNH skaters - Ensor, Hickox, Huggon and Stefanilo - graduated in May 2003 while both Silvestri and VanMassenhove completed their junior year.

I know channel 11 did, it was pretty amusing. josh prudden had a nice wig, and colin hemingway had an excellent sombrero.

Kudos to the kids from UNH who made the Hockey East All-Academic team. But only 7 of 22 or 23 kids on the roster maintained a 3.0 or a B average. None of them where frshmen or sophomores. What's up with that?

I don't know when the HE All-Academic team is selected, but the WWCHA team comes out during the school year, so to my knowledge, freshmen aren't included.

Only 3 saturday games, half as many as last year, real bummer because that is the only day I have off. Looks like its time for me to switch my hours around and get Friday off (7 home games).

Anyone have any idea why they've cut down on the Saturday games? Was it making the ice chippy when the men played later?

Wish they'd tie the Maine games in to each other, have the mens and womens games the same days, women play the early game and men the late, seems like it would be a win-win. When its up in Alfond they might actually get some people in the doors for the womens games (atleast some traveling unh fans anyways) and I wouldn't imagine it would hurt at the Whitt either, for example if you have a mens ticket you get in to the womens game free or something.

Was disappointed not to see Wisconsin or Ohio State come to town this year, wanted to get Stojack back for calling me a "****ing dork" 2 years ago when I was razzing her. Should make for an interesting season, not much for pacing themselves, dive head first in to the tough match ups til January and then cool down for the HE match ups at the end.
