Hoping to catch the semi's before the mens finals. Doubt I'd be able to get Sunday (the womens finals) off because I am taking Friday off for the men's semis.

Take a look at page one of UNH's game notes for the Niagara contest. Very nice summary of Jen Huggon's goal tending career and awards. Says at bottom, "All America Candidate."

quit ;)
Saturday will be a fun day. I hope UNH has the early game so we don't have to worry about skipping out to make the men's finals....

It appears that they also are promoting her for the Patty Kazmaeir award; "Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award and All-America candidate"
I thought she wasn't eligible, or am I misunderstanding the earlier posts?

after the shutout against maine on tuesday, Huggon moves into the 2nd spot in the nation in save% at .933, just slightly behind Horak of UMN who stands at .934. She is also second in GAA at 1.51, and first in minutes played, and shutouts with 12, more than doubling her closest competetor in that category.
But it makes sense why she wasnt nominated for the patty k.

She was a candidate, but not a finalist

Actually, it seems to me that this season USA Hockey has started terming the Patty Kaz top ten as "candidates" and the top three as "finalists." If you look over their press releases, I believe they'll back me up on this.
I recall in years past USA Hockey has called the top ten "finalists" leaving them with no available word to describe the top three. I salute that change. It'll clear up a lot of confusion as long as everyone's consistent.

What do people think of UNH's chances to make the Frozen Four?
At this time, they are #4 in the PWR, and it seems like whether they remain in that position depends on their individual comparison with Dartmouth:
Dartmouth vs New Hampshire
RPI 0.6158 0 0.6200 1
L16 12- 4- 0 1 11- 4- 1 0
TUC 4- 6- 0 0 4- 4- 2 1
H2H 1 0
COP 12- 4- 0 0 13- 4- 1 0
============================================
PTS 2 2
It looks like UNH is not in control of its destiny.
My analysis is that their RPI is likely vulnerable. With 1 game against Quinnipiac and two against Boston College left on the schedule, as well as most likely one game against a team not under contention in the Hockey East Semis and most likely Providence in the Finals.
Dartmouth on the other hand has two games against Mercyhurst, one against Princeton, two ECAC quarterfinal games likely against Cornell or Colgate which won't matter, and then potentially two more games against a TUC (probably St. Lawrence and Harvard)
It doesn't look like they can win the L16 Comparision either. Dartmouth could conceivably win their next 7 games, losing in the ECAC semis, or 8 games, losing in the ECAC finals. Either way, that eliminates their losses to Duluth (2) and St. Lawrence and would run their record to at worst 14-1-1.
By winning its next 6 games and the ECAC playoffs, UNH could eliminate their losses to Harvard and Dartmouth, but can't do anything about their losses to Minnesota and Providence, and tie to Wisconsin. Best they can finish is 13-2-1
For the TUC, once again UNH is vulnerable. Dartmouth controls its own destiny. With potentially 5 more games against TUC vs. UNH's 2 it has a chance to improve its record dramatically and win the comparison.
As for Common Opponents, once again Darmouth controls its own destiny. A win over Princeton, and then a win over St. Lawrence in the ECAC Semis and that would give it the point.
As a UNH fan, realistically, I guess what we need to hope for is for UNH to win out.. and Dartmouth to go, at best 1-2 against Mercyhurst and Princeton and then for Dartmouth to lose in the ECAC semis.

Yes, UNH is not in control of its own destiny, but I think I'd be more optimistic to look at the most likely scenario for Dartmouth rather than worst case - that's Dartmouth beating everyone except Harvard in the ECAC final. I think it was already pretty obvious without looking at the PWR that if Dartmouth does win the ECAC, they were going to the Frozen Four.
UNH, I think, has a better chance of winning a TUC comparison simply because they're playing easier TUCs. If Dartmouth beats everybody but Harvard, and if that happens and UNH wins out, UNH will take that comparison (barely).
Also with Common Opponents, if UNH wins out and Dartmouth loses to Harvard, I believe UNH gets that comparison as well looking solely at record (though I would HOPE the committee would be intelligent enough to recognize that UNH wins the comparison simply because Dartmouth played three games against Harvard and UNH only had to play one).
UNH will need an additional Dartmouth loss to take the Last 16 category.
As for RPI, it's tough to see what'll happen. Two games against Mercyhurst is the best you could ask for. Mercyhurst is a team not as good as its record indicates, and when OPP record is worth 50% and OPP-OPP record is worth just 15%, the RPI simply does not do enough to compensate for that. On the other hand, Dartmouth does get hurt because it has to play two ECAC playoff games against weak teams. (And herein lies the worst flaw of the RPI - not playing Colgate/Cornell at all is less preferable than beating them). So the Mercyhurst benefit, Colgate/Cornell loss kind of cancel each other out I think. It wouldn't be too hard to project this out though.

Since we are covering the various scenarios for the FF 4th slot, may as well throw in the last remaining wildcard in this picture. Highly unlikely, but none the less, if Wisconsin runs the table in its remaining 6 games (2-OSU, 3-UM, 1-UMD) they will beat out UNH due to a higher RPI and depending on how Dartmouth fares against Harvard, UW could take the point here as well.
Yes, a l-o-n-g shot, but UW is still in the picture until they lose. Currently, they are playing the best hockey of their season since the return of McCleod and Burish.

UNH beats quinnipiac 7-1
shots 59-6
this was not a good effort for UNH, at least thru the first two periods.
score was 2-1 at the 2nd intermission. UNH had 35 shots at the time, but NOTHING on rebounds...nobody was going to the net...very little hockey awareness...lots of standing around...
players were too zoned in on cycling the puck....against good teams, they'd have been on the right track, but quinnipiac was so awful in their coverage that if players had picked their heads up they could have gone to the goal with the puck.....and far too often they had their heads down and just put the puck right back into the corner on the cycle.
it was very reminiscint of last season. 3rd period, players finally started going to the net...picked up a deflection goal and 3 rebound goals before carolyn gordon finished the scoring by picking the defenders pocket from behind on the breakout, wheeling around and going waterbottle with the 7th goal.
good one period, not much else positive in this game.
goal scorers:
jones
gordon (2)
fahlenbock (2)
kaip
hansen

The start time for UofM vs. MSU-Mankato last Sunday was moved up an hour. I heard it mentioned several times on the sports beforehand and a separate mailing was sent out to season ticket holders. But I did speak to one Mankato parent who missed the first period because he was unaware of the change. In that case, it might have helped if his daughter had pointed it out to him...
