No. Read this paragraph.
Earlier this year, The USA Hockey Foundation asked women’s Division I intercollegiate varsity ice hockey coaches to nominate up to two players from their team for The 2003 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Those players were placed on an official ballot and sent to the coaches, who then voted for the top 10 finalists. The official ballots were tabulated by the nationally respected accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
I still find the result hard to believe, if that's how it was selected. Am I correct in guessing that you're developing a Julie Sasner conspiracy theory?

no, i dont think sasner could single handedly make such a mistake.
all i know is this- and this being a separate issue from the patty k.
huggon was angry earlier this season when she felt she was snubbed by ben smith when he chose gunn over her (for the natl team training camp i believe.) i heard that smith does not favor small goalies or huggons style of being more flashy. if you look at the 2003 roster, all the goalies except for whitten are alot larger than huggon. all i can say, and this is exactly why huggon was upset with smith, is that jens numbers and performance in net this season has absolutely been far and away better than that of chanda gunn no matter what style she plays. she keeps the puck out of the net better than almost any goaltender out there.
no matter how the finalists are chosen, something is wrong IMO with the fact that huggon is absent from the list while gunn is not.

Ranks 11th in the nation with a 2.28 goals-against average. Holds a .929 save percentage, good for fourth-best in the nation. Her 1,266 minutes played places her seventh in the country. Has posted a 6-13-2 record. Ranks fifth in the Hockey East with a 2.52 goals-against average in conference contests. Ranks third in save percentage (.921) and first in minutes played (666:57). Has recorded one shutout in conference play. (C. Gunn USA Hockey website)
Ya, these look like KAZ numbers, 11th in the nation???

This is the truth Ben Smith doesn't like small goalies or in fact i don't think he likes samller hockey players. i think he likes bigger players who can be more physical but i think smaller players are more scrappy and hold there own look @ UNH roster the 2 tallest players are Steph jones and Jaime VanMassenhove @ 5'8"

If it was early in the year when McCloskey had to nominate his two players how certain is it that Huggon would have been one of his choices?

That isn't a bad GAG, given she plays for a team that is down this year. There is no way that a goalie can put up great stats across the board when your team is not playing good D in front of you.
One inherent flaw in this system is that the people doing the voting don't get the chance to see every player every year. So they have to use their impressions of the player from seeing them in the past.
I don't disagree with you; I would give Huggon the nod over Gunn. I think winning should count for something. But I would guess that if they switched teams, Huggon would also struggle to earn W's.

I'm certain he expected Huggon to be one of the 1 or 2 most outstanding players on the team being a senior goaltender who had performed well in the past, though I would agree she is exceeding expectations.

finalist chanda gunn really showed us why she is is the only goaltender in the league to get the nod for the patty k. in the first round of the beanpot against BC, she allowed three goals in a 3-2 loss to the eagles. she made a whopping 12 saves on the night.
ive seen enough. BC isnt a strong offensive team so you cant just blame it on poor defense on NU's part. and you also cant say that it was just the beanpot-it also counted for a league game and puts BC and UConn just 2pts behind NU in the 4th playoff spot.
it was also released today that gunn has made the 2003 US national team, after getting the invite to the training camp over huggon earlier this year.
i really hope that UNH wins hockey east and gets a final spot in the FF. maybe then huggon will get the attention she deserves.

HMMMMM..... Just a Thought..........
GUNN - 3-2 loss to BC(not taking anything away frm BC)
1-0, 3-0, 3-0 Losses to UNH
7-16-2 overall and 3-8-1 in HE
Huggon - 6-0 win over BC(not taking anything away frm BC)
1-0, 3-0, 3-0 Wins over NE
Overall 21-5-2 Hockey East 10-1-0
Patty K- Gunn
The thought of Huggon vs Gunn and the fact that Huggon doesn't need the Patty K to prove to herself who the better goalie this season and that she knows she got jipped for the nomination to help her in the long run - PRICELESS!!!!!
Gotta Love HUGGS!!!!!!!
My Little Quote-
GUNNs may kill people But HUGGS can heal people whos is better for your team?? UNH does and its our HUGGON Team USA will find out soon when GUNN actually kills the team, wait wait wait im sorry GOTTA root for team USA no matter who's in goal for the team.
HUGGON UNH loves you and N'Eastern wishes they had you so does everyone else!!

should be an easy weekend for the cats. last time they met Quinnipiac it was earlier this season away from the whitt and they won 10-0.
this weekend will have some big implications on UNHs FF chance and HE season champion situation. providence has connecticut and dartmouth sees harvard.
for the sake of UNH- go crimson and huskies!

thats pretty lame. only 1-3 inches expected here, and 4-8 in ct.
its not like there wasnt any warning. they should have left last night or early this morning. the main roads arent even too bad.
i think we have something like 8-10 inches in durham last month and they still played the game with brown
That really is lame. Granted, it isn't supposed to stop snowing until 8pm or later, but it isn't like there are huge amounts accumulating. Oh well.

They had up to 16 inches of snow in CT and Mass most of it along the route the bus would travel. I for one would rather see that a game is cancelled then read that members of the Woman’s hockey died while traveling to a game in NH. But hey that’s just me and I get scared by clowns.

NOOO!! I'm going to a Bruins game that night! :( :(
Just when I thought I'd get to see one last game this season... (I work Fridays and Sundays, and they are done home Saturday games for the season).
Just looking ahead to the next game a bit up at Orono: UMaine fans, please no live lobsters on the ice. Thank you.
