We just out an e-mail from our University President, we're encouraged to go to classes as usual....
Has anyone seen any pictures of the Pentagon? I was watching the TV a while ago, but they didn't show anything other than NYC. What kind of shape is that in? I don't like turning on the news and being able to recognize the neighborhood my grandmother lives in engulfed in smoke...

The Taliban said, "We want to tell the American children we feel their pain and hope the courts find justice." It sounds like they're going to claim responsibility. (CNN). There's going to be a press conference from the Kabul government.
this is the Taliban trying to put their tail between their legs, because they know whats coming............can anyone say "cruise missiles" they may not be responsible directly, but indirectly they harbor these piece o******** terrorist organizations and allow them to roam freely.
Nobody here is sure whether we have classes. People had said all classes had been canceled, but I got an e-mail from a prof that said we still had a class today.

They showed the Pentagon a while ago. One end of it was still burning and smoke covered a wide area.

Questions:
A) Is the Taliban the sect in charge in Afghanistan?
B) If so, and the Taliban are responsible, will this be considered an act of war by the people of Afghanistan?

The Taliban is the government of Afghanistan. The US does not recognize the government.
If the Taliban is responsible, yes, it would be an act of war, but I don't think the government is responsible. I think it's the Taliban's overt acceptance of Bin Laden.

The BBC has a good article about who might be responsible.

For the moment, it may be moot. The Taliban are on CNN denying responsibility on behalf, I gather, of Afghanistan.

Reason for aircraft carriers to be along the east coast would be to add their fighters to the screens over whatever cities are currently being patrolled. Also, could add their AWACS craft to those of the Air Force and/or Air National Guard.

At this point, IFF Bin Laden is responsible, I would hope we would tell Taliban that he's coming with us, and it's up to them whether they lose anybody trying to get in the way.

I just saw the video of the 2nd plane hitting one of the WTC buildings. What a terrible thing to happen. I can only imagine the terror all those people felt when they saw what was about to hit them and the terror the innocent people in the plane felt. What a horrible thing.
Yeah Handyman, this was not the way I wanted to be back again.

According to drawings on local DC TV, one corner of the Pentagon was destroyed. If you imagine a pentagon-shaped building, the area from one corner, part way to each of the adjacent corners was destroyed. The particular section was occupied by the Army and was recently renovated. (They have been renovating over several years the Pentagon section by section.)

The 6 degrees of separation will ensure that this disaster will hit every part of the US. One of dad's closest friends, who lives in western NoDak, fears he lost his daughter, who worked in the upper floors of the WTC. My thoughts and prayers are out to everyone.
Certainly, these acts call for a considered and deliberate response, carried out with extreme prejudice.

This whole thing is surreal. Almost like it's out of the movie Independence Day.
I was thinking the same exact thing, Zudnic.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Ritt, all those in NYC, and those across the country affected by this cowardly tradgey. :( :(
Unfortunately it's times like this that make us truly appreciate our loved ones and those around us.

Just heard that the Camp David crash is false. No plane or bomb exploded at Camp David.
266 dead from the airplane crashes alone.

Fox was reporting that congressional leaders were told the death toll will exceed 10,000. This is just unreal. Heads have to roll for this.

25,000 people were in the Towers this morning. No word on how many got out.
