Scott, that is the best idea so far. I myself am headed down to the Red Cross. I can't get through on the phone so I am just going to go.

I strongly encourage everyone to do so. If you give blood you may save someone's life.

Howard Stern has had someone on giving locations and #'s in NY for blood donation. I recommend that anyone give blood that can.

Are you serious? They're really paying you time-and-a-half for remaining at work while you fear for your life? I can't seem to find a word for how rediculous that is.

Now reported that on the plane that went down near Pittsburgh, a passenger locked themself in the bathroom and alerted the authorities using his/her cell phone that it had been hijacked, and shortly thereafter there was a boom in the background and the line went dead.

Oh, they said that there is nothing to worry about. Our building management corp. has been in contact with the FBI, and they said there was no threat to our safety.

Yeah, I'm guessing the people in the World Trade Center thought the same thing when they woke up this morning.

My question is: they have told people in NYC to go home, but they have closed Penn Station, Grand Central Station and all tunnels and bridges. Great, how the hell do the people on Manhattan Island get off the island? What if they took the train in from CT? What happens? Is there going to be looting and rioting in NYC?

If you know that you have type O blood, please try to donate as O is the Universal donor - anyone can receive it. In an emergency, they will transfuse O because they don't have time to type the victim.

The US Military has been moved to a "state of war" alert status. Leaves are cancelled and units prepped for deployment.

I'd guess that it's more or less safe at this moment. I'd worry more when they start to let down from full alert and planes start to go back into the air.
