My bike route home from work takes me through Bolling AFB and the Naval Air Station. I could not enter Bolling because there was a bomb scare in a Fedex package. (I have heard nothing further, so I assume that it was just a scare.) This caused me to have to ride through sections of DC that I would prefer not to visit.
The death figure estimate from the Pentagon is 190 including the plane.

BTW did anyone notice how the press mangled the flight information on the news? The DOT Secretary clearly said flights would begin AT THE EARLIEST Noon Wednesday...and soon all the networks were reporting this as a sure thing and announced after the hour passed that DOT "changed their minds". Woo.
OK minor point but just really ignorant.

Regarding all this crap about George Dubya "ducking and running"...POPPYCOCK!!! Rule #1: All persons of (US) high authority have a responsibility to...STAY ALIVE! Then they can actually divy out there auothori-ty more better!!! Get it??? Pretty hard to do it otherwise and it's a pain in the arse having to go through swearing-in when planes are intentionally crashing into all of your citizens!

correct me if im wrong...but there was no US when nostradamus was alive so how he could have predicted anything about it is beyond me

PCM, it's called leadership. Many thought (this includes flag rank officers and civilians) having the President in Washington, DC would have improved our situation -- not only in DC and NYC, but for the nation as a whole. But, in fact, he was out of the public eye for several important hours during the day. Obviously, those of us in the middle of the mess, and with additional information available to us, had a different perspective. Using your logic and security threshold, it would be miraculous if AF One ever got off the ground or the POTUS left the bunker. Anyway, enough wasted debate on this senseless topic.

The problem with the media is that they keep rephrasing their questions---but they can be summed up a couple of different ways.
"Is there anything that you can say or information you can give that would be helpful to the enemy."
"Is there a chance that maybe we deserved this?"
What the f is wrong with these people?

Completely and utterly taken out of context. Especially any attributes to "flag rank officers". Those are the first people in our system that will tell you how important it is to increase the safety of your President (and everyone with remotely that much power) in high threat situations. It's literally a by-the-book procedure!!! That's the sole purpose of AF1 as a rule!!! It's designed to fly higher and be as ELUSIVE AS POSSIBLE during times of crisis!!! It's practically in the owners manual that comes with the **** plane!!!

Remember the SNL skit like that during the Gulf War? It was one of the few skits that couldn't much exaggerate the prepostorousness (word?) of the situation no matter how hard they tried!

Maybe you heard something different than I did then. Oh, wait, you were not in the smoke filled E-Wing with me. If I heard it once, I heard it a half dozen times. It's a straight forward leadership issue. I can't explain military code to you if you've never spent quality time in service to the country. If you recall your civics lessons from years ago, you will remember that the POTUS is also the Commander in Chief of the Armed Services. In that role, many believed he should have been there... you may disagree and become emotional about it, but those are the facts. I understand your position/concern. I'm just providing what I experienced... don't attempt to shoot the messenger.
Anyway, what's the deal with the arrests at JFK? Are these suspects who arrived to take flights (which would seem completely idiotic) or are they employees?
Lots of false bomb threats being called in.... I guess this wasn't unexpected.
