I was just driving on I-97 south of Baltimore. The matrix highway signs are warning travelers to avoid I-95 North and NYC from as far south as here.
CNN is reporting that 200 firefighters and 78 police officers are missing and presumed dead in the rubble in Lower Manhattan.
Unbelievable
Ritt, my prayers are with you and your fellow New Yorkers.
REDMEN2002, Chalk this one up to a lesson learned, and move on.

Folks, listen ... I'm sure Craig didn't mean any harm. I don't want to be condescending here, but he's still a kid, and it was just an unintentional error in judgment. It looks like it's been rectified. No harm, no foul, and hopefully no suspension.

This is a huge loss for the US...may we all join together and pray that this never happens again.

I pray that Mark and Ace and all others who lost their lives today rest in peace, and for strength for their grieving families.
I also pray for Coach Parker and all of Mark's former BU teammates, whose hurt is no doubt very deep.
And I pray for Mike Bavis, who suffered the incomprehensible loss of a brother at such a young age. May God be with him.
The guy who pilotted the second plane that hit the WTC was my neighbor. :(
My condelnces to everyone.

... I work in science, surrounded by many intelligent, bright and brilliant men and women...
yet I still cannot fathom all of this mess. I deal with facts and figures, proving hypothesis
and trying to make all right... my company let us all go early; however, I stayed late...
I cannot bare to see the footage anymore... oh, I am like all of you... I am angry as hell...
but alas I cannot get the image of people plunging to their deaths from the burning
towers.
The most horrible thing now, after the death, injury and destruction, is the fact that
no one is claiming responsibility for this.
All fingers are pointing to Osama Bin Laden... at least they are now on the post-
president speech.
College hockey seems like nonsense now...
As I originally stated, what the hell is going on?

What is going on, without any doubt in my mind and in my heart, is that the events of today, and the fallout that will come shortly, will ultimately prove to be the most pivotal event in the history of our country - if not the entire free world - at least since the outset of World War II. This is a cold-blooded, calculated strike at the very heart of our freedom and our way of life.
Twenty years from now ... forty years from now ... assuming we still have this wonderful world, and it has not been incinerated by even more heinous acts of inhumanity ... we will all look back and remember where we were when we first heard this story, how we felt about it, how we reacted, the large knots in our stomachs and pains in our hearts when we realized the full impact in the loss of human life, and in the way we'll view the world from here on out.
The key now is whether we still have the collective commitment as a nation to take the hard road, and seek retribution for this heinous act of cowardice. We have been hesitant to do that in the past. We cannot afford to be hesitant or uncertain now.
The stakes have never been higher. One can only imagine how today's losses could be dwarfed IF nuclear weapons fall into the hands of these inhuman beings. Decisive action must be taken.
This travesty simply cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged.

I'd like to express my sorrow and condolances to anyone who has lost anyone that was close to them.
But i'd especially like to put a tribute out to those Police and Firemen who went into the area knowing that they were risking their lives and STILL went in to try to save the lives of others. These men and women gave their lives in the hopes of saving others, THEY ARE TRUE AMERICAN HEREOS!!

News that the NYC fire chief is among the dead. This entire tragedy is just beyond belief. I am in shock. I have a feeling that when the fires are under control and the remains of the towers can be seen, then it will really hit me. Right now I count myself very lucky to be among the view in the US with no relatives or close friends in the affected areas, but my heart goes out to those who are not that fortunate.

The fact that the Afghans have given harbor to Bin Laden for 5 years justifies a tremendous retaliation on our part. I want to see 10,000 dead Taliban Afghans. I hope to God that this attack has brought war fever to America and we take the fight to them, no matter the casualties on our part. Some things are worth dying for. I want blood and I want Bin Laden.

Newt Gingrich hs just called on us to issue a declaration of war against those who conducted the raids against the US.
Today was a black day in our history.I can remeber the Japonese attack against Pearl Harbor and its results. An America that came together to fight for what we believed to be right. For the second time in my life the call has gone out again. Now is the time for all of us to forget our differences and unite behind our presidentand bring the ******** that did this to justice.I dont believe a declaration of war is the answerbut I would agree to political assasinations of those responsible.
Pray that all of our friends that work and live inthe city are allright.Glad to hear that RITT is OK.

This is the same sentiment on the other side that caused today's events.

Adam W.:
The thousands of Americans that died today were murdered!!! The world outside our borders is not friendly, not pro-American, and not going to fight our enemies for us. The only way to respond to this is with war. Thousands of Americans just died today that were totally innocent. Kids in New York are sitting in their homes wondering if Mom and Dad are coming home tonight. Folks around the country have loved ones that died in crashes. Our Pentagon was smashed and servicemembers killed. Firemen and Policemen were killed doing their jobs-putting their necks on the line for you and I. You're right, these murderers killed us because they hate us... and it's time for this nation to go on the warpath and show our enemies that this great nation has not gone soft-that this nation won't allow this murdering of our people to go unpunished!!! I hope you aren't suggesting that this rage and thirst to avenge American death that I have is somehow wrong or somehow will lead to a cycle of violence like we see in Israel today. Well, too late buddy, these killers want ALL Americans dead and this includes you and I.
