Driving by the Air National guard base in Bangor Me, Which BTW has been activated, one can see many guards carrying M- 16s, pretty eerie for a rural area. All gates are now barricaded with heavy equipment and concrete.

I should add - I'm worried that we are acting in too much haste, striking before we have a clear picture of what it is we should be striking at. If we hit the wrong things, as with the attacks in the Sudan, it may very well do more harm than good. I'm all in favor of a measured military response, but I worry that this one has not been measured enough.
ive been busier talking to friends than paying attention to the TV...but are we certain its actually the US retaliating?

William Cohen is saying that these attacks are probably not from the US

Anybody else hear former NY mayor Ed Koch on the radio, wow he wants to nuke them now. William Cohen is now on CNN saying the fires in Kabul might be the revolution that is ongoing and not US strikes

We are not sure it is the U.S., but if in fact that's what's happening right now, who else would it be? I'm seeing reports (second-hand based on CNN footage) of tracers and/or missiles in the sky and explosions in the distance.

No we are not - it possibly could be part of the Afgan civil war. The top Afgan rebel was injured in an attack recently. Perhaps it could be a retaliation on the Talbian on that front.
But the timing is interesting.

More from CNN (second-hand):
Per CNN:
According to senior officials, though not the Pentagon, this is NOT a US or US-Sponsored attack in Afghanistan

Interesting note: ESPN is reporting that BC basketball/football assistants regularly take the Boston-LA flight to recruit, but fortunately none of them were on today's flight.

Another interesting thing is that at least here in DC, it is a beautiful day weatherwise. I left my apartment at about 3pm and walked to the Washington Channel (an arm of the Potomac) to look if I could see the smoke from the Pentagon. I couldn't although I could at about 11 this morning. Also from where I work across the Potomac from National Airport, before I left a bit before 10am I could see and smell the fire.
Pictures of the Pentagon appear to show that a 50-foot section has collapsed with much more fire/smoke damage. It isn't at all clear how many of the rings of the Pentagon were damaged. For obvious reasons, they haven't been able to show any aerial shots.

I had heard (and clearly, almost anythng you hear at this point could be rumor) that the section of the Pentagon that collapsed was undergoing renovation and therefore (perhaps) sparsely populated. (Let's hope.)

I just read a story on ESPN that Ace Bailey was on one of the flights and that he was one of two organization members, so it does sound like both he and Mark Bavis were on the flight.
I really don't know how much more coverage I can watch. It is truly mind boggling. CBS got some new footage of the second plane crashing into the WTC. It looks like something out of a movie.

Melandry, yes, it had recently been renovated. No one seems to be sure as to how much of it has been reoccupied.

Reports on several TV/Radio channels here in DC state that about 100 people were killed or in hospitals. I assume that does not include the plane. That is an amazingly low figure. I guess that there is an advantage to building horizontally and not vertically, not to make light of the situation in NYC where I assume that many times this were killed.

Policymakers are denying responsibilty for any US attacks on Kabul. Oh well. We'll have our chances very soon I suspect.

Currently everyone is saying that the attacks in Afghanistan are NOT United States attacks... and I can't imagine that they would be. When it comes to light who did this, though, someone is going to have hell to pay...
