from U of Michigan Hospitals for those in the Ann Arbor Area:

What you can do:

Donate blood by calling the American Red Cross at 1-800-448-3543 or visit the local Red Cross Office at 2725 Packard. (Please do not call local hospitals.)

The University community plans to hold a vigil at 9 p.m. today on U-M Diag.

Updates will be available at the U-M Web site at www.med.umich.edu.

Knowing as I do that the Packard Red Cross office is quite small, I would suggest maybe waiting a day or two before going to donate unless a call goes out to come in sooner.

TA Jen -
Life will be normal again. The shock will fade, we'll mourn and we'll heal.

Our Republic and people have experienced a lot of hardship. Our optimism and spirit enable us to overcome and are what make us the greatest people in the world.

These lunatics will be brought to justice and it will be a proud day for America.

I for one don't believe the Pentagon was the target. THere was a photo out on one of the web pages showing the Pentagon, adn just visible above it is the Capital Dome. I think that was the target, and there was a miscalculation, or struggle.

There was unconfirmed reports that the plane that crashed into the pentagon narrowly missed the capital dome and then hit the pentagon.

There were also reports of a military helicopter in the vacinity of the plane that crashed into the Pentagon. It's possible the helicopter attempted to shoot down the plane before it reached its target.

As Capt. Richard (NMN) Marcinko, USN (Retired), former CO of US Navy SEAL Team Six would say,

<B>"Doom on you."</B>

to those who did this (both in its English and phonetic French-Vietnamese, "du-ma-nhieu", meanings).

Now, are four airliners aimed at civilian targets considered "weapons of mass destruction" for planning purposes? I'm saying yes.

Its true and the plane was bound for Minneapolis. The dogs are done searching it and they turned up nothing. Here's a link: www.in-forum.com

Right on TA Jen, and we need to stop worrying about what the "world reaction" is to our retaliations.

I'm more worried about what the world will think if we don't do anything. What is the point of having the military power we do if everyone one knows we won't use even if attacked?

I had a friend in highschool who was ranked in the state for shotput and discus all the way through school---in short, a huge guy. Very intimidating to others...unless you knew he was ticklish as hell and couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. We need to fight our way out of the paper bag.

Thanks for the comforting words (-: I'm not saying I expect Armageddon; I just think some people are in a bit of denial about how serious this is in our area. Not that I'm expecting to be bombed any minute, but Detroit Metro is a major airport located nearly on top of an international border in a large city. Somehow, I don't think it's going to be business as usual around Detroit by Sunday. As someone mentioned a few posts ago, a whole lot of eyes are on Canada. It is notoriously easy to get into Canada and there's really no border to speak of between there and the US in this area. It's like the state line between Michigan and Indiana in South Bend---pretty much the only way you can tell you've crossed is the speed limit drops.

Nows not the time for this debate but I'll ask the question anyway, "Just what good would a missile defense system have done in this case?" Sure you can build it but it can't stop this kind of attack. Being this type of attack is more likely than one involving missiles, why waste the money? (especially being the missile defense system hasn't been able to prove its effectiveness yet, once its proven effective I'm more interested in looking at the options.)

as i said in my post, i'm not saying "missile defense" is the right answer. but it more or less brings up the notion that we need a better form of national defense. our gov't needs to be working on some form of defense against terrorist acts like todays. whether money be allocated to more intelligence or some other form of security, we need more protection. if this terrorist group could orchestrate such an operation as today's, whats to say they coudn't do something worse. i know i never believed something of this magnitude could be carried out on US soil.

The spot the pentagon was hit was also one of the better case scenerios. The most important stuff was on the other side of the building. So, our Capital building was probally the target.

This is a time for us Americans to unite. No just white americans, african americans, women, men, gay straight or bi, or whatever. If you are an American, this is our struggle now. It was not someone else this time, it was US . All of the little things must be put aside now so that we may heal as 1 full nation. In time, every American will feel the affects of this act of terrorism, and that is why we ALL must come together to cope with our losses, both losses of life, as well as the loss of Americas image on being untouchable. We must all cope, respond, and grow as one nation from here on out.

He also talked about the warning Bin Laden posted 3 days ago in an EMail. Bin Laden knows the US isn't prepared for what he brings to the table. W has to be tough on this, lets hope he is

Exactly. When I was in the army in the mid-eighties, most of the "out of the box" thinkers in special ops were of the opinion that we had more to fear from a suitcase nuke than anything the Soviets had. This is an example of how we cannot always control the flow of battle and must adapt accordingly.

We have plenty of special operators and other people who can deal with these ******** mano-a-mano, but they have been leashed up or cashiered out by the desk jockies on the Hill and in the Pentagon. This is no war with "rules" and it's high time to drop the gloves and beat those *****s into the stone age, again.

Remember when all of the kidnappings were going on in Beirut in the 80's? They tried the same crap with the Russians once. The Russians tracked down 2-3 local operatives of the Jihad, castrated them while alive and dropped them out of a moving car in front of Jihad's HQ. Result: Nobody went after the Russians in Beirut again.

If we don't set the tone now, and react accordingly, we will probably be seeing this type of attack again.

Fox 25 jus treported that it was not Mark Bavis, but rather Ace Bailey. Bailey was listed on the LA Kings staff page, but Bavis wasn't. Either way, it is a sad day for hockey, and an even sadder day for the nation. My heart is with everyone who has family and friends involved in the attack.
