Hey, for people who can't get onto CNN.com and other news sites, ESPN.com has all the stories and is much easier to get onto.

Thought it would help.

i cant believe this sh it. im home from school and even though i knew the jist of what happened im just now seeing the video and really getting a feel for it...my family lives about 5-10 miles from the pentagon and is pretty scared...

all i know is that this coming week...G fu ckin double U is gonna either have to start thinking about where he wants to work as a janitor after his 4 years...or he's going to earn himself a lot of respect from people like me that cant stand him and earn himself a landslide reelection. its time for him to step to the plate, show some cujones and get something done

It's strange. My eyes whell up with tears sporadically when watching the news, when reading news on various sites and when reading this board. This is all very overwhelming. Just bizzare.

Anyone else get updates from CoffeeCup Software? I just got this email from them. I'm used to getting software update notices, but nothing like this.

I think some of what he says is inappropriate.

Hello everyone,
This is Nicholas Longo, the CEO of CoffeeCup Software. As you may have heard the World Trade Center and Pentagon were attacked about 45 minutes ago.

The Team at CoffeeCup would like to send our heart felt sorrow to those that perished in these attacks.

We would like to also say on record that if any country is found responsible for these attacks, we call for that country's complete destruction and annihilation.

Do not let terrorism which is designed to create fear and stop production, halt your life or work.

Stay focused and do not stop what you are doing.

-May God bless us all and the decisions we must make.

Nick-

I don't think this one is about domestic politics. At least at this point. The focus should rather be on finding out who really did this. Somehow I doubt that we will ever know for sure.

Classes are cancelled here at Michigan. The city of Detroit is shut up tighter than a drum; downtown evacuated, airport closed, tunnel to Canada closed, Ambassador bridge open but with armed guards at checkpoints. Haven't heard about the Bluewater, but I'm assuming it's closed or heavily guarded also.

For those who know Todd@bishopsoft, the BU fan who lives in Boston and has parents in LA, he and his parents are fine---I talked to him this morning.

Rittinger, take good care of yourself. I hope you have been evacuated, as I've been hearing that buildings near the WTC may also collapse.

My heart goes out to everyone near to or involved in this tragedy. I'm praying for all.

. Anyone who doesn't believe this is the result of a sophisticated organization is dreaming. Lots of dough behind this cheap crap. Chicken ***** dogs(they can't be people!) who kill innocent people. Don't believe in Heaven and Hell much but I hope they rot!
Hopefully Ritt was late for work this Morning, its too bad all Americans in vicinity weren't late.

I was finally able to get phone contact with my family. My parents, who live outside the city, have been able to contact my grandma, who lives in lower Manhattan. She's fine, everything is smokey of couse. This just leaves my cousin, who I know worked in the WTC and his department was being transferred to NJ, I don't know whether or not that happened yet, and we haven't been able to find out anything about how he's doing..

...reparations against responsible countries don't have to involve bombings, do they? That just induces retaliation back at us.

Yes they do. It's called war, and whoever hits the hardest wins.

Good god almighty.........

My prayers are with all those poor souls in the towers, and at the Pentagon, and for those of you with family and/or friends who may have been there.

God bless the USA.

How horrific. Words cannot express how I'm feeling. Nor, I'm sure, other Americans. My heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to everyone who was and will be affected by this tragedy.

I don't know who mentioned it earlier on this thread about the similarity of this attack to one outlined in a Tom Clancy novel (Debt of Honor). In that case it was a Japanese pilot that crashed his plane into the Capitol during the State of the Union, killing the President, senators and congressman. It's the first thing I thought of when I heard about this. Freaky.

I have just received word of 3 friends of mine who were in the WTC (including one who was on the 61st floor) are alright and got out safely. Hopefully, this is indicative that more people were able to get out before the towers collapsed.

The story down here in DC:

A good 2/5th's of the Pentagon is heavily dammaged and/or rubble. There are conflicting reports of a car bomb going off in the area of the State Department also. Pretty much all of the government buildings have been evacuated and are locked down. The Capitol Hill has been completely closed off and F-15's have been scrambled out of Andrews AFB to protect the area from the air. The Navy has dispatched 2 carriers from Norfolk (1 to NYC and 1 to DC) to provide extra air cover.

In Maryland:

The National Security Agency at Fort Meade and 2 main highways right next to it are completly shut down.

The US Naval Academy in Annapolis is locked down along with the rest of the Maryland State Buildings.

Yeah, Scarlet, I mentioned that earlier, I had just read it about 3 weeks ago, and CNN radio had actually been interviewing Clancy earlier. He was just dumbfounded, saying how he never thought what he had outlined could ever happen. It's really surreal.

Pulled from another board:

Summary of airplanes involved, from EFE (corrections & additions since last bulletin):
American Airlines flight 11 (Boeing 767) from Boston to Los Angeles. 81 passengers, 11 crew aboard. Departed Boston at 7:59. Loss of communications at 8:28 a.m. Crashed into World Trade Center 9:01 a.m.

American Airlines flight 77, (Boeing 757) Washington to Los Angeles. 58 passengers, 6 crew aboard. Departed Dulles at 8:10. Loss of communications at 8:22 a.m. Crashed into World Trade Center 8:10 a.m.[sic]

United Airlines flight 93, (Boeing 757) Newark to San Fransisco. 38 passengers, 7 crew aboard. Departed Newark 8:01 a.m. Shot down by USAF F-16 in Somerset County, Pennsilvania 10:10 a.m.

United Airlines flight 175, (Boeing 767) Boston to Los Angeles. 56 passengers, 9 crew aboard. Departed Boston 7:58 a.m. Shot down near Camp David (exact location not disclosed) ~11:00 a.m.

?? flight ??, Crashed into Pentagon Building 9:45 a.m.

They say they will issue more bulletins as more information comes in.I've seen speculation that it was one of those four flights that went into the Pentagon, but there's some dispute as to which one. In fact, whether it was a full-size passenger jet or a smaller private plane has not been confirmed, to the best of my knowledge.

Oh, and I think that one that's indicated as impacting the WTC at 8:10 actually hit at ~8:45.

As others have said, it's called war. And war is hell. It's ugly, brutal, and costs thousands and sometimes millions of lives. But it is sometimes necessary. I don't think we could've stopped Hitler through peaceful negotions. You cannot reason with people who want nothing less to to destroy you. That is why national defense is a necessity.

The more I watch this massacre on TV the more upset I get.

This was not the work of some isolated group. This was most probably the work of a very well organized network of groups financed, supported and protected by a number of nations, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq to name a few. Anybody who thinks these guys are the lunatic fringe is dead wrong, these ******** operate as instruments of policy for a variety of nations. To presume you can't attack a group is wrong, you can attack a group, even if you have to clip their supporters and members one by one. As well, you can also take out their supporters or so badly isolate them that they turn into isolated shells.

This is not an attack solely against the US, it is an attack, as Tony Blair noted, against all free nations. It will therefore require coordinated action to destroy these ******** and their apologists. Diplomacy does not work with murderers.

this morning around 9am, i was walking my one year old down near the beach which is about five miles from otis afb. all of a sudden, a large number of f-15 fighter jets went screaming overhead towards the ocean like bats out of hell. it was eerie because i hadn't heard what had happened until i got home. all i can say is 'oh my god'.
