Just finished watching the Blackhawks let one slide away to the Redwings, 5-4. For St. Cloud State fans, the bright spot was the play of Tyler Arnason. Arnie was #1 star in the game with two goals and excellent play on every shift--according to Hawk TV announcers Pat Foley and Dale Tallon.

Tallon went on to say that Arnason was the "best player so far" in the Blackhawk camp. He is the #3 center, and is seeing lots of time on the power play and penalty kill units.

Reports are that Arnason worked out every day with a personal trainer in the off-season, and came to camp 20 pounds lighter and in the best shape of his life.

It is great to see this fine young man performing like many of his fans thought he would.

This is great for Tyler. I have met him before and he is a great kid with a big heart. The big stigma on him was that he didn't care or work hard. Sounds like he has shaken that and is well on his way to having a good career. Looking forward to watching him on tv.

The other night I noticed Tyler scored a goal in Chicago's 3-0 win over Buffalo.

I went to ESPN to look up his stats on the season, here is Tyler's profile........Arnason (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=2943)

That picture is not of Tyler. I saw him a few times while here at SCSU and I never thought he looked like that, that can't be him! (but who is it?) Also, was he born in Oklahoma City? I know he grew up in Winnipeg, but I didn't know he was born in OK.

Anyways, congrats to Tyler for the goal the other night. :)

Saint, you are as astute as always. No, that is NOT Tyler Arnason on the ESPN webpage. Kind of looks like a young Mike Gartner, but I am not sure.

Arnason and the "Kid Line" of Calder and Bell have been consistently the best line for the Hawks. Arnie got the goal on the power play--vintage Arnason goal--he had about two inches to shoot at on the far side from a bad angle, and rattled it home.

Arnason is getting plenty of ice time, as he is on the power play and penalty killing units.

While the family is from Winnipeg, Tyler was born in Oklahoma City because his dad, Chuck Arnason, was playing down there.

Arnason was also called "the best player on the Hawks" during the pre-season camp.

Never known for his face off ability, Arnie has slightly improved, but so far has only won 39% of the draws.

Tyler has that knack to put the puck in the back of the net. I loved watching him and Sampair on a line. I wish he wouldn't have gotten the negative press when he was here as he did a lot for the program.

About his face-offs, couldn't they have someone else take the draws and then as the play moves away from the face-off circle he could slide to the center spot and the other player could slide to the wing.

I hope I can catch him a few times on tv this year or maybe at the X. :)

Tyler had a great game tonight for Chicago. He got a goal and an assist on the PP and helped the Blackhawks beat San Jose 3-2.

I watched the assist and it was a great feed from the side of the net across the crease to Berezin for the stuff in. Arnason is known as a shooter, so it was nice to see him pass it off from so close into the net for the easy goal.

That gives Tyler 2 goals and 4 assists in 7 games so far this season. :)

BTW-ESPN has taken off the pic that was wrong in Arnasons profile.

Arnason with yet ANOTHER goal tonight! He is a hockey GOD!

The goal tonight (against Columbus) was Arnason's 7th point, tying him for the NHL scoring lead among rookies. Chicago Tribune has had a few articles about Arnason--he leads the team in shots, plays on the top power play unit, and was double-shifted at the end of the San Jose game.

I let ESPN know that the picture of Tyler was NOT Tyler. Glad they changed it. . . .

Or through the net! ;)

I don't even feel like I can call Ty Chubbs anymore, he seems like he has been working really hard. Good for him. :)

BTW, nhl.com has the right pic of Ty (I'm too lazy to post the site) and he even looks way different. He has shortened his skater hair considerably.

Keep up the great work man! I love watching you do well! :)

Another solid performance for Arnason last night in Chicago's OT victory!

He scored the goal to send it to OT just after the PP expired. I think his biggest impact came in drawing a penalty at the end of regulation and also drawing one in OT that allowed Chicago to get the game winner on the PP. I wish I could have seen the plays, but if you are drawing a hook and a holding call in the crunch time of games then you must really be working hard and causing TONS of problems for the other team.

Keep up the good work Tyler! :)

From the Nashville newspaper:

Hot young Hawk: One reason the Blackhawks felt comfortable trading No. 2 center Michael Nylander last week was the emergence of rookie Tyler Arnason, who looks like he'll be a serious candidate for the Calder Trophy as top rookie.

Arnason scored the winning goal with 6.2 seconds to play last Tuesday against Columbus, then on Thursday tied the game with Los Angeles 1-1 with 35 seconds to play. In overtime of the latter contest, Arnason drew the penalty that led to Chicago's game-winner.

''For a guy his age, I don't know if I've ever seen a player with as much strength on the puck,'' linemate Steve Thomas said of Arnason, the American Hockey League's rookie of the year last season.

''He protects it well, and when he comes out of the corner, he's got people all over him and he still keeps control of it. He's playing with a lot of confidence and for a young guy he is very poised.''

Does anyone have any updates on other SCSU players? I don't exactly get the evening news here in Kosovo or really much news at all. Plus, I don't have the time to look these things up on the internet. Thanks.

Yeah, it was fun heckling a Gopher fan at the Final Five two years ago when he yelled "at least we don't have Canadians on our team" after Tyler blistered one through (literally) the net.

I told him he was from Oklahoma, but he didn't believe me. I hope he has since learned the truth!!

Big game forming tonight for Arnason. By the middle of the second he already has a hat trick and his goals are what have the Blackhawks on top of San Jose 3-2!

Arnie gets his first NHL hat trick--but the Sharks come back to earn a tie. Arnason leads the league's rookies in goals, total points. The Sharks announcers were very impressed. Arnie was Player of the Game and the #1 star of the game.
