When the Caps open training camp at Piney Orchard on Friday, Chris Ferraro will be on the ice for the first time since last Oct. 16, the day his own world was hit; the day that his wife of three months, Jennifer, was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Chris Ferraro was in L.A. and had played against the Kings after having just been recalled from Portland of the AHL. When he returned to his hotel room after the match, he received the news. He left the team immediately, ending his season so he could be by his wife's side through the arduous recovery process.
Jennifer Ferraro is 31. They took her stomach out six months ago. They found cancer in her intestines. As her treatment continues, she perseveres bravely. She lives life. So does Chris Ferraro, who returns to the rink on Friday.
