Komo has 14 points through 28 games so far. He is second behind Jim Fahey, who just was called up to the NHL, among rookie defencemen in the AHL. Pretty good company, since I think that Fahey led the NCAA in defencemen scoring a year ago, and is 3 or 4 years older. Mike hasn't totally abandoned the physical game, as he has had 4 scraps so far, with some full time fighters.
Most impressive stat is that Komisarek leads all AHL rooks in shots on goal, and is just a couple back of teammates Jason Ward and Benoit Gratton who are 1-2 in AHL scoring. Mike has obviously figured how to get his shot through, and when that happens the goals and points will come. It also means that he likely has a lot of powerplay time in his future. Coaches love a point man who can get the puck on net.
When you add that on to the other assets he brings to the rink, it makes for a huge upside.

....Mike K. had 3 points and 5 shots last night, Mike C. had 5, 10, and a game for fighting. The pro game really IS different from college.

What's with all the Mikes?
Van Ryn sent to the AHL, where he can symbolize the "Van Ryn Rule" to all the greedy little bleeps (stuck there) who thought they were better than they actually were.

Totally agree with Hobart...greedy hotshots who think they're too good for the college game

Jillson just got sent down too. He was demoted Thursday to the Sharks' AHL team in in Cleveland.

Jillson deserved to be sent down. He's been awful. He's been continuing to make the same bad decisions in his own zone he made at Michigan, and he hasn't been able to recover in time against NHL players like he could get away with in college.

Those two get compared a lot, and I noticed an interesting stat....in his final season at Michigan, Jillson had 30 points in 43 games and about 75 PM. Komo had 30 points in 40 games and about the same PM. In his first pro season, Jillson played 27 AHL games with (2-13) 15 points and 40 some PM. Komo has (2-13) 15 points in 32 games and 53 PM so far. Talk about following in the footsteps!
Mike Legg retired - he had recently been traded to Trenton ECHL.
I am sure the Minnesota fans will be in mourning. ;)

Legg didn't retire. He was traded to Trenton, but failed to report thus the ECHL suspended him indefinitely and his rights reverted back to Columbia.
Yesterday Columbia traded Legg to Augusta for cash and the suspension has been lifted. He's suppose to debut for the Lynx tonight, I believe.

Mike was named to the USA/Planet All Star team by the league's coaches. He leads all rookie AHL defencemen in points, shots on goal and +-. Has also dropped the gloves with a few of the league's heavyweights, most latterly NHL vet Dave Roche.

Matt Herr, Andy Hilbert, and Komo playing for Planet USA in the AHL All-Star game, while Jason Botterill suits up for the Canadian All-Star team. Herr was voted a starter for the game. Anyone know if Hilbert will play? I saw in the stats the other day that he has been recalled by Boston and recorded an assist.
Mike Cammalleri was also sent back to Manchester as the L.A. Kings returned three players to their lineup and needed to make some room.
And finally, Mike Legg recorded five assists in Augusta's 9-5 victory tonight against...eh...Florida, I think it was.

Mike Komisarek's path just got a lot easier. Patrice Brisebois, Montreal's top defenceman in terms of playing time, and the right side pointman on the powerplay, had a bit of a breakdown and flew off to Paris for a little R&R. Trouble is, the team didn't authorize it, so it looks like the much (and fairly) maligned Brisebois is done in Montreal. If team mangement doesn't send him packing the fans will. Nananana...nananana....good bye!

This Bris thing will be interesting to watch unfold; maybe Komo will get his chance now.

Uh Oh! Breezy is making some sounds of reconciliation. Don't think that it will last, though. Problem is finding someone who wants a soft, self absorbed, 32 year old defenceman who is owed $16 million over the next 4 years.
Komisarek has gone to play in Hamilton tonight on a sort of "emergency recall" basis. The Bulldogs are down to 3 regular defencemen what with injuries and callups. Mike is supposed to return to Montreal tomorrow, however.

Komo had a goal, an assist and was first star tonight. I guess the rest did him good.

Mike Knuble set an NHL record for fastest two goals by one player to start a game, when he scored at 10 seconds and then at 27 seconds at the start of the Bs win over Florida a few days ago.

Mike Komisarek made his NHL debut tonight for the Canadians. He logged around 16 minutes of ice time, had two shots on goal, and was an even plus/minus.

Komisarek didn't look at all out of place in the NHL. His passing and his shot were as good as anyone on the ice. He should have had his first NHL point as well, except for some great work by old nemesis Ryan Miller.
