  • USCHO Posting Limits

Due to increased costs of internet bandwidth, USCHO has implemented, on high traffic users, a limit on posting.

"An analysis of the D-III boards has indicated that an overwhelming number of posts, particularly on weekends, can be identified to three schools -- Oswego (NY) State, Plattsburgh (NY) State and Norwich (VT) University. In order to keep the pipelines as congestion free as possible, we will be restricting the number of posts from these schools during high traffic periods," said USCHO President Tim Brule. He continued "We value our Division III participants. They are an important part of our constituency and we want to make sure that all of D-III is served, not just the posters from three schools."

When asked what the limits will be, Brule said that it was still under study on what the limits would be and how they would be applied. "One thing that needs to be stressed, is that posting on low traffic days and posters from the other almost 70 Division III schools will not be regulated," he said. "We want to make sure that all of Division III, the largest of all the NCAA Divisions, is represented in our forum."

In response to a question on how the users could be identified when they are not physically located at the three schools, Brule cited the advanced statistical modeling work of Professor Steve Wiitala (Retired) in analyzing the past 2 years of posts to determine a poster's affiliation.

The restriction would become effective on November 1, 2013 and will be reviewed every 2 months to see if they should continue said Brule.

Calls to Matthew Webb, impresario of d3hockey.com were not returned.

I also believe they are looking at prohibiting the use if wildlife usernames - i.e. no more hawks, fish, etc.

I knew right off that bat that it wasn't for real because Utica wasn't included.

How about compulsory posting for less well represented schools instead?

That's because 95% of the postings about Utica come from two of the 3 schools mentioned or from D-I posters.

Chief Justice Roberts just called. He said that, while it is unconstitutional to compel people to post, it is okay to impose a tax on people who choose not to post.
